Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital

Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital is a major metropolitan teaching hospital. Patients can access a range of services including coronary care, intensive care, orthopaedics, general medicine, surgical, obstetric, respiratory, rehabilitation, paediatric, maternity and emergency care. The hospital also provides a wide range of outpatient services including allied health, dental and podiatry clinics, child, adolescent and family health, drug and alcohol, health promotion and rehabilitation and aged care. An acute mental health service is co-located at Hornsby Hospital. The new $265 million Stage 2 redevelopment was officially opened in June 2022.

What you'll be doing





The primary purpose of the Career Medical Officer (CMO) is to provide high level medical care, including responsibility for the initial assessment, investigation of patients in Intensive Care and High Dependency admissions. The CMO will be supervised by specialist staff, and provide supervision and support to junior medical staff in the Intensive Care.

- Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role
- A minimum of 5 years of postgraduate experience, including extensive, recent experience in Intensive Care Medicine/critical care medicine, including a minimum of one year undertaking an in-charge role
- Advanced ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the planning, delivery and coordination of patient care.
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with patients, family members and others members of the health care team.
- Advanced organisational and time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment
- Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
- Evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to self education.
- Demonstrated competency in clinical skills including advanced life support with ability to perform ALS procedures (including endotracheal intubation and insertion of central lines, arterial lines and intercostal catheters), interpreting patient history, physical examination, pathology, ECG and radiological investigations to diagnose simple and complex presentations
