About the role:

The position of the Farm Community Counsellor is to engage with and provide support to rural farming communities and individuals within the broader agricultural sector who are experiencing severe stress due to the current drought. The expected outcomes of this service are to provide individualised support, build individual and community resilience and sustainability during these difficult times.

As the Farm Community Counsellor, you will:

- Identify individuals and families experiencing severe stress by
developing effective linkages into the agriculture sector and drought affected communities;

- Engage with affected individuals/families in locations that are accessible, suitable and/or comfortable for them,

- Provide a counselling service that uses a supportive, strengths-based, resilience-building and problem-solving approach, and;

- Ensure that individuals and families with mental illness are linked to the relevant MLHD community and inpatient services and lower intensity CMOs where appropriate.

Our ideal candidate will demonstrate:

- A Relevant tertiary qualification (or equivalent experience) in Health, Social Work, Psychology or Counselling with membership to the relevant peak body

- High level mental health literacy skills and a working knowledge and awareness of the impact that drought has on individuals, family relationships and communities; particularly as they relate to mental wellbeing and rural adversity.

- Sound counselling skills, including supportive, strengths-based,



resilience-building and problem-solving approaches; combined with knowledge and skills in community engagement and development of community group education opportunities.

- High level written, interpersonal communication skills with the proven capacity to negotiate, influence and develop relationships with stakeholders; manage face to face communication with small or large audiences.

- Ability and willingness to travel for work purposes with evidence of a current Class C driver’s licence
