Annual Salary: Qualified from $92,279 to $99,294 per annum based on full time

Trainee from $80,008 to $85,798 per annum based on full time

About the Position

The Financial Counsellor provides support, case management, advocacy and community education to individuals and families experiencing financial difficulties and undertake community education. This role supports clients to understand their financial situation, access entitlements, manage debt, and explore options to resolve financial difficulties.

As a Financial Counsellor, your responsibilities will include:

- Delivering confidential financial counselling, money management support, and coaching.
- Providing information, advocacy, and advice on income, entitlements, and debt legality.
- Assisting clients to explore options such as debt negotiation, waivers, and bankruptcy.
- Supporting clients with complex documentation, including statements of affairs and creditor correspondence.
- Liaising with internal and external services to support clients in financial crisis.
- Actively participate in supervision, team meetings, and service reporting requirements.
- Maintaining accurate data and travelling to other service locations as required.

About You

As a Financial Counsellor , you must have:

- Completed a Diploma in Financial Counselling.
- Relevant membership with South Australian Financial Counsellors Association (SAFCA) (or willingness to obtain).

As a Financial Counsellor (, you must:

- Be undertaking study to complete the Diploma in Financial Counselling or have a willingness to commence and complete the qualification while progressing toward Accredited membership with South Australian Financial Counsellors Association (SAFCA).
- Hold or be willing to obtain relevant membership with SAFCA at a student intern level.

All applicants must have:

- Maintain membership and professional requirements with relevant peak body, SAFCA.
- Experience in advising and providing financial information to families and individuals to assist in the resolution of financial issues at various levels including crisis intervention through demonstrated skills and experience in a related industry such as banking, accounting or finance.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the impact and issues related to financial crisis and associated behaviours in rural and remote locations.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation.
- Knowledge of hardship provisions and the practices of financial institutions.
- Experience in developing case plans and facilitating a positive approach in working with families,



individuals and groups to achieve these goals.
- Experience in working in a highly confidential manner;
- Experience in providing financial literacy and community education.
- Demonstrated ability to identify an issue and seek creative solutions.
- Highly effective communication skills (verbal and written), interpersonal skills and time management skills.
- High level of negotiation and advocacy skills.
- High level of ability in the use of Microsoft Office and Information Technology.

Requirements of the role:

- Hold (or willingness to obtain) a current DHS Working With Children Check *
- Hold (or a willingness to obtain) a National Criminal History Record Check (Police Check) *
- Hold a current South Australian Driver’s License (minimum Provisional License)
