The Mechanical Engineering Technician provides technical support to Mechanical Engineers in the installation, commissioning, testing, inspection and maintenance of tower cranes, construction hoists, loading platforms and associated lifting equipment. The role is responsible for conducting mechanical testing, assembling and installing mechanical components, collecting engineering data and assisting with preventive maintenance to ensure equipment operates safely, efficiently and in accordance with engineering specifications.
- Assist Mechanical Engineers in the installation, testing and commissioning of tower cranes, construction hoists and lifting equipment.
- Conduct mechanical testing and inspections to ensure equipment operates safely and complies with engineering specifications.
- Assemble, install and adjust mechanical components and assemblies in accordance with engineering drawings and manufacturer specifications.
- Collect and record mechanical performance data to support engineering assessments and maintenance activities.
- Inspect mechanical systems and identify faults, wear or defects for repair, maintenance or replacement.
- Interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications and maintenance manuals to support installation and servicing activities.
- Prepare inspection reports, maintenance records and other technical documentation.
- Assist with equipment modifications and preventive maintenance to improve the performance, reliability and safety of mechanical systems.
- Responsibilities
- Support Mechanical Engineers in the installation, testing and maintenance of crane and lifting equipment.
- Ensure all work complies with engineering specifications, Australian Standards and Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) requirements.
- Maintain accurate inspection records, maintenance reports and technical documentation.
- Monitor the condition and performance of mechanical equipment and report defects or maintenance requirements.
- Work collaboratively with engineers, supervisors and site personnel to deliver safe, efficient and high-quality engineering services.
- Qualifications & Requirements
- AQF Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology or a closely related discipline; or at least three (3) years of relevant industry experience may substitute for the formal qualification.
- Minimum of 5 year of relevant full time work experience as a Mechanical Engineering Technician or in a closely related role.
- Experience in the installation, testing, commissioning, inspection or maintenance of cranes, lifting equipment, heavy machinery or industrial mechanical systems is highly desirable.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications and maintenance manuals.
- Knowledge of mechanical systems, preventive maintenance and mechanical fault diagnosis.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience using maintenance management systems or engineering software will be an advantage.
Pay: $70,000.00 – $80,000.00 per year
