Job Vacancy: Casual Support Worker — Reservoir

Position: Casual Support Worker
Location: Reservoir, VIC
Hours: 1/2 days per week (ongoing casual, with strong potential to increase to long-term regular hours in the near future)

About the Role

We're seeking a reliable, compassionate support worker to provide community-based supports to a male participant in his middle years. Our client currently resides in a rest home while awaiting approval for Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) housing. Once he transitions into his current home, there is strong potential for this position to grow into ongoing, long-term work.

About the Participant

Our client lives with Cerebellar Ataxia and Peripheral Neuropathy, which affect his coordination, balance, and sensation. He is wheelchair bound and will require a Maxi-cab to transport around. He requires a support worker who is patient, attentive to mobility and safety needs, and comfortable assisting with community access and day-to-day activities.

Key Responsibilities

- Providing community access support (outings, appointments, errands, social activities)
- Assisting with mobility and ensuring safety given balance and coordination challenges




- Supporting engagement with community and social activities of interest to the participant
- Building a respectful, trusting rapport with the participant
- Documenting shift notes and reporting any changes in presentation or needs

Requirements

- Current NDIS Worker Screening Check (or willingness to obtain)
- First Aid and CPR certification
- National Police check
- Experience supporting clients with neurological or degenerative conditions highly regarded
- Understanding of, or willingness to learn, mobility assistance techniques relevant to ataxia and neuropathy
- Reliable, punctual, and able to commit to consistent weekly shifts
- A genuine, caring approach and good communication skills

Preferred

- Male applicants are preferred for this role, in line with the participant's companionship needs and preferences.
- Availability to increase hours in the future as the participant transitions into SDA housing.
