About the role

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Aboriginal Sexual Violence Systems Navigator to join our team for a new program, and support Aboriginal victim survivors to access culturally safe pathways through the justice system while strengthening connections to community, culture, and support services.

The Aboriginal Sexual Violence Systems Navigator provides culturally safe, trauma-informed support to Aboriginal victim survivors aged 16 years and over who have experienced recent or historical sexual assault, assisting them to understand their rights, options, and pathways through the criminal justice system.

This role aims to strengthen Aboriginal community’s understanding of sexual violence and the systems which can support response. You will provide advocacy, practical assistance, information, and referrals while walking alongside victim survivors throughout their healing and justice journey.

Working within TAMS-AC’s trusted community based service model, you will promote self-determination, informed decision-making, cultural safety, and continuity of care for victim survivors, their families, and communities.

You will also play a key role in strengthening partnerships across Aboriginal communities, justice agencies,



legal services, and specialist trauma services to improve outcomes for Aboriginal people affected by sexual violence.

Key responsibilities

Provide culturally safe information and guidance on victims’ rights, reporting options, police investigations, court processes, compensation schemes, and available supports.

Support Aboriginal victim survivors to understand their options and navigate the justice system.

Deliver advocacy, practical assistance, and trauma informed support throughout the client journey.

Conduct needs assessments, develop support plans, and coordinate referrals to health, counselling, housing, legal, justice, child protection, and specialist support services.

Maintain regular client contact, monitor progress, and adjust support as needed.

Building strong partnerships with Aboriginal organisations, justice agencies, victim support services, and community stakeholders.

Participate in case coordination, interagency meetings, and community education activities.

Promote culturally safe, strengths based practice that supports connection to family, community, culture, and Country.

Maintain accurate records, prepare reports, and comply with organisational, funding, and legislative requirements.

Participate in supervision, training, and continuous career development.

To be successful in this role, you will have a strong commitment to supporting Aboriginal victim survivors through culturally safe, trauma-informed practice.

Essential





Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person (this is an Aboriginal identified position under Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).

Demonstrated understanding of the impacts of sexual violence, trauma, intergenerational trauma, and the experiences of Aboriginal victim survivors.

Experience working with Aboriginal individuals, families, and communities.

Knowledge of the criminal justice system and/or experience supporting people through police, courts, legal services, or victim support processes.

Demonstrated ability to provide culturally safe, client-centred, trauma-informed support.

Strong communication, advocacy, and relationship-building skills.

Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.

Strong case management, organisational, and recordkeeping skills.

Current NSW Driver Licence.

Current Working With Children Check.

National Criminal History Check.

Desirable

Qualifications in Community Services, Social Work, Counselling, Aboriginal Studies, Justice Studies, Law, or a related field.

Experience working within an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation (ACCO).

Knowledge of NSW victim support services, Legal Aid, police and court systems.

Experience within domestic, family, and sexual violence sectors.
