What you'll be doing
The purpose of a Senior Resident Medical Officer (SRMO) in Critical Care at Blacktown-Mt Druitt Hospitals is to provide medical care and support, as part of a multi-disciplinary team, that is consistent with the level of clinical training, skills and experience of the appointee. This position would suit applicants who are interested in pursuing a career in Intensive Care, Anaesthetics or Emergency Medicine.

This position is rotational, comprising of 4 terms which may include the terms listed below:

- Anaesthetics (Blacktown)
- Intensive Care (Blacktown)
- Emergency (Blacktown or Mount Druitt)
- Peri-Operative Medicine (Blacktown)
- Relief

The SRMO will be assigned to different clinical specialties (Intensive Care, Anaesthetics, Emergency Medicine and Relief) during the year where they will participate in assessment and management of patients under the supervision of senior practitioners whilst developing their knowledge and skills in clinical decision making and practice.

- MBBS or equivalent,



current general registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Advanced ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the planning, delivery and coordination of patient care.
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with patients, family members and other members of the health care team.
- Advanced organisational and time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management. Completion of ALS training is required and must be completed within 3 months of commencing appointment.
- Evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to self-education.
- Demonstrated competency in clinical skills including advanced life support with ability to perform ALS procedures (including endotracheal intubation and insertion of central lines, arterial lines and intercostal catheters), interpreting patient history, physical examination, pathology, ECG and radiological investigations to diagnose straightforward and complex presentations.
- Ability and willingness to work at the facilities within the Network to deliver patient care and preparedness and ability to participate in 24-hour shift work roster.
