Position(Job Title): Production horticulturist

Location: Stanthorpe, QLD 4380

Job type: Full time (38 hours per week)

Salary: From $80,000 + Super

Kurrabar Farms is a vegetable farming business based in Stanthorpe, Queensland. We are seeking a skilled Production Horticulturist to join our team and support the production of high-quality vegetable crops.

To be considered for this role you must have

- Certificate III or IV in Horticulture or related field is essential.
- At least two years of relevant experience in the industry in similar position.
- You must be an Australian Citizen/Permanent resident or have legal working rights in Australia.

- Crop Health, Irrigation and Nursery Management

- Workforce Supervision and Harvest Coordination
- Operational Coordination and Resource Management

Main tasks
1. Crop Production Management

- Coordinate and supervise land preparation, crop establishment, cultivation and harvesting activities for tomato and capsicum crops.
- Prepare daily and weekly work programs to ensure production schedules are achieved.
- Monitor crop performance and implement corrective actions to maintain productivity and quality standards.

2. Crop Health, Irrigation and Nursery Management

- Monitor crop health and identify pest, disease and weed issues, implementing appropriate control measures where required.
- Operate and monitor irrigation systems and drainage infrastructure to support optimal crop growth and production.
- Monitor and manage seedlings and nursery plants to ensure successful crop establishment and continuity of production.

3. Chemical Application and Machinery Operations





- Prepare and apply agricultural chemicals and undertake soil treatment activities in accordance with farm procedures and legislative requirements.
- Monitor the condition of tractors, implements and production equipment and coordinate maintenance requirements where necessary.
- Ensure equipment and materials required for horticultural operations are available and maintained in a secure and serviceable condition.

4. Workforce Supervision and Harvest Coordination

- Train, supervise and monitor farm employees and seasonal workers to ensure work is completed in accordance with farm procedures and safety requirements.
- Assess work quality and provide guidance and corrective actions where required.
- Coordinate harvesting activities and labour allocation to meet fresh market supply requirements.

5. Operational Coordination and Resource Management

- Ensure adequate availability of production inputs, including seedlings, fertilisers, chemicals, irrigation materials and harvesting supplies.
- Liaise with the Farm Manager, Grower and external advisers regarding production activities and operational requirements.
- Maintain production records relating to irrigation, chemical applications, harvesting and crop performance.

Preferred Skills

- Knowledge of horticultural production practices, including crop establishment, irrigation, pest and disease management.
- Ability to supervise and coordinate farm employees and seasonal workers in a horticultural production environment.
- Good organisational and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet production schedules.
- Effective communication and record-keeping skills to support farm operations and compliance requirements.
