Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control (MFC) is a Strategic Industry Partner for the development of the Australian Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance (GWEO) Enterprise with goals to enhance self-reliance, supply chain resilience, and developing a guided weapons manufacturing capability in Australia. The Strategic Capabilities Office (SCO) will oversee the execution of GWEO initiatives.

As a Project Accountant, you will support program delivery by executing end-to-end project accounting for customer-funded programs. You will deliver accurate internal and customer reporting, robust analysis and maintain effective control of program financial performance throughout the contract lifecycle, aligning with organisational financial rhythms and controls.
This role is ideally suited to a candidate with project accounting experience within Defence, engineering or government contracting sectors.

This position can be based in Canberra ACT, Melbourne VIC or Adelaide SA.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Execute end-to-end project accounting: order booking, cost tracking, invoicing, cash flow monitoring and month-end close.
- Generate monthly program Orders, Sales, EBIT, Cash (OSEC) and base cost forecasts.
- Analyse key financial metrics including work-in-progress, orders backlog and contract profitability, and produce clear, actionable insights.
- Analyse OSEC actuals, contract status,



cost allocation accuracy and variance to plan, producing clear, insightful reports with commentary and corrective action recommendations.
- Assist in preparing the program Long Range Plan (LRP) and Operating Plan (OpPlan) inputs.
- Deliver customer financial reporting that aligns with contractual requirements, ensuring accuracy, completeness and on-time submission.
- Support Contract Status Review (CSR) cycles by preparing and presenting key metrics and variance analysis to program leadership.
- Maintain accurate, audit-ready records and ensure compliance with financial controls, contract requirements, accounting standards, internal policies and procedures and Defence cost principles.

About you:

You are a commercially minded finance professional with 4-7 years of project accounting experience in customer-funded programs. You thrive in a fast-paced environment, juggle competing priorities, and work independently and collaboratively across cross-functional teams.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

- Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
- 4-7 years hands-on project accounting for complex customer-funded programs.
- Experience in program OSEC reporting, budgeting and forecasting.
- Strong data-management skills, including extraction, reconciliation, transformation and integrity checks.
- Intermediate-to-advanced Excel skills and experience using ERP and financial reporting systems.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- High attention to detail with a track record of preparing and maintaining audit-ready documentation.

Desirable:

- CA/CPA qualification (or working towards completion).




- Experience within the Defence industry or a similarly complex project-based environment.
- Knowledge of Defence contracting requirements, allowable cost principles or government financial frameworks.
