Tell me about this role:

As the Inventory Manager, you will play a critical role in supporting the sustainment and operational readiness of the Australian Border Force (ABF) Evolved Cape Class Patrol Boat fleet. Working within a complex Defence and government environment, you will lead the planning, coordination and management of inventory and materiel support activities that underpin vessel maintenance and availability.

You will be responsible for ensuring the right parts, consumables and repairable items are identified, sourced, procured and available when required to support scheduled maintenance activities. This role requires close collaboration with Defence, ABF and industry stakeholders to integrate ABF-owned inventory within Defence logistics systems, manage supply chain risks and establish robust inventory governance processes.

Success in this role will be driven by your ability to translate maintenance requirements into practical inventory solutions that support mission-critical maritime operations.

What will I be doing day to day?

- Provide specialist inventory and logistics advice to support fleet sustainment objectives and operational readiness




- Analyse maintenance plans and schedules to determine inventory and materiel requirements across operational, intermediate and deep-level maintenance activities
- Develop and maintain Annual Task Materiel Lists (ATMLs) to support fleet sustainment and maintenance programs
- Identify required spare parts, consumables and repairable items needed to support vessel maintenance
- Forecast inventory demand using maintenance schedules, engineering assessments, asset usage data and reliability trends
- Coordinate procurement activities to ensure inventory is ordered and delivered in line with maintenance timeframes
- Monitor supply chain risks, lead times and potential shortages, implementing mitigation strategies where required
- Work closely with Defence logistics stakeholders to develop warehousing, storage and inventory accounting solutions
- Develop and implement inventory governance and assurance processes

What sort of skills do I need?

- Experience in inventory management, supply chain, logistics or materiel sustainment within a Defence, maritime, government or complex asset environment
- Strong understanding of inventory planning, demand forecasting and procurement processes
- Knowledge of warehousing, inventory control and logistics management principles.
- Understanding of supply chain risk management and inventory optimisation techniques
- Experience working with logistics,



ERP or Defence inventory management systems
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills across multiple organisations and agencies
- High attention to detail and commitment to inventory accuracy, governance and compliance.
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach with the ability to anticipate issues and drive continuous improvement initiatives
- Australian citizenship and a minimum NV1 security clearance
