Youth Residential Care Worker

Beyond Horizons is seeking compassionate, resilient and suitably qualified Youth Residential Care Workers to support children and young people in Shepparton.

In this role, you will provide trauma-informed, culturally safe and person-centred support within a residential care environment. You will help young people feel safe, develop independence, strengthen positive relationships and work toward their individual goals.

Key responsibilities

- Provide consistent, trauma-informed care and emotional support
- Establish safe, respectful and professional relationships with young people
- Support daily routines, personal care, education, appointments and community participation
- Assist young people to develop practical living, communication and emotional-regulation skills
- Implement individual care plans, safety plans and behaviour-support strategies
- Respond safely and professionally to behaviours of concern and critical incidents
- Administer medication in accordance with organisational procedures and training
- Maintain accurate case notes, incident reports and other required documentation
- Work collaboratively with families, carers, schools, Child Protection practitioners and other professionals
- Maintain clear professional boundaries and safeguard young people from abuse, neglect and exploitation
- Respect and promote each young person’s identity, culture, family connections and individual rights
- Participate in supervision, team meetings and ongoing professional development

Essential requirements

Applicants must have:

- Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention,



preferably with a Residential and Out-of-Home Care specialisation, or another recognised relevant qualification
- Completion of, or willingness and eligibility to complete, the required Victorian residential care competency units covering:
- Trauma-informed care
- Providing residential care
- Managing behaviours of concern
- Current Victorian Employee Working with Children Check
- Satisfactory National Police Check
- Current First Aid and CPR certificates
- Current and valid Australian driver’s licence
- Evidence of Australian working rights
- Availability to work across a rotating 24-hour roster
- Strong written communication and computer skills for case notes and incident reporting
- Ability to understand and comply with the Victorian Child Safe Standards, mandatory reporting responsibilities and organisational child-safety policies

Employment will be subject to satisfactory screening, reference checks and verification of qualifications.

Desirable experience

- Previous experience in residential care, out-of-home care, youth work, child protection, mental health or disability support
- Experience supporting young people affected by trauma, family disruption or complex behaviours
- Knowledge of therapeutic care and culturally responsive practice
- Understanding of Aboriginal cultural safety and the importance of connection to family, community and culture
- Mental Health First Aid,



medication training or safe crisis-intervention training
