The Golden Elephant is seeking an experienced and motivated Chef to join our team on a full-time basis at our busy restaurant located in Berri, South Australia. The successful applicant will be responsible for preparing and cooking a variety of dishes across our dine-in and takeaway menu, including Indian entrees, tandoor items, traditional curries, chef’s specials, vegetarian dishes, thali plates, biryani, naan and breads, gourmet pizzas, kebabs, burgers, fish and chips, kids meals and desserts.

The successful applicant must be able to work in a busy commercial kitchen environment, maintain consistent food quality and presentation, support daily kitchen operations, and ensure all food safety and hygiene standards are followed.

Key Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to:

- Plan menus in consultation with management and kitchen staff.
- Estimate food and labour costs and assist with ordering food supplies.
- Monitor the quality of dishes at all stages of preparation and presentation.
- Discuss food preparation issues with managers, kitchen staff and waiting staff.
- Demonstrate cooking techniques and advise kitchen staff on cooking procedures.
- Prepare, season and cook food in accordance with menu standards and customer expectations.
- Prepare and cook a range of Indian and multi-cuisine dishes, including curries, tandoor items, breads, biryani, pizzas, kebabs, burgers, seafood items and desserts.
- Ensure meals are cooked, portioned and presented consistently and to a high standard.
- Explain and enforce hygiene regulations and food safety requirements within the kitchen.
- Maintain cleanliness, safety and organisation of kitchen areas, equipment and workstations.
- Assist with stock control, food storage,



portion control and wastage management.
- Support efficient kitchen workflow during busy service periods.
- Select, train and supervise kitchen staff where required.
- Freeze and preserve food where required in accordance with food safety standards.
- Work cooperatively with kitchen and front-of-house staff to ensure timely service and customer satisfaction.
- Ensure all dishes are prepared in accordance with restaurant recipes, portion standards and presentation requirements.

Skills and Experience Required

The successful applicant must have:

- Minimum 1 year of relevant work experience as a Chef or in a similar commercial cookery role.
- Strong knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, kitchen operations and food presentation.
- Ability to prepare and cook a variety of Indian and multi-cuisine dishes in a busy restaurant workplace.
- Experience with curries, tandoor cooking, breads, rice dishes, pizzas, grilled items, seafood and general commercial kitchen operations will be highly regarded.
- Good understanding of food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Ability to work under pressure and maintain food quality during peak service periods.
- Ability to work cooperatively with managers, kitchen staff and waiting staff.
- Robust communication, organisation and time-management skills.
- Availability to work a rotating roster, including weekends, evenings and public holidays.

Qualification Requirement

A minimum Diploma qualification in Hospitality, Commercial Cookery or a related field is required.

Salary: $80,000 per annum plus 12% superannuation

Hours: Minimum 38 hours per week

Work Location: In person

Pay: $80,000.00 per year
