Carpenter / Leading Hand
Canniffe is a specialised Design and Construct commercial building business based in Brisbane. We’re seeking an experienced Carpenter /Site Supervisor to join our team, specialising in Office/Warehousing Complexes and Industrial Projects - $5.0M - $15.0M.
Requirments:
- A minimum 5 years previous experience in the Brisbane commercial construction industry in a directly related roll.
Description & Responsibilities:
1. Site Leadership & Daily Operations
- Coordinate trades and tasks day‑to‑day to ensure works progress safely, efficiently, and in line with the construction program.
- Work with subcontractors, trades, and site personnel, ensuring clear direction, coordination, and accountability.
- Participate in daily pre‑start meetings, and site briefings tailored to warehouse/office build sequencing.
2. Safety, Compliance & Risk Management
- Work within the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and relevant Codes of Practice.
- Maintain and implement the Site‑Specific Safety Management Plan (SSSMP).
- Manage high‑risk construction activities common to warehouses (steel erection, tilt panels, working at heights, plant movement).
- Conduct regular site inspections, risk assessments, and incident reporting.
3. Program & Sequencing Control
- Monitor construction progress against the master program, identifying delays early and implementing recovery strategies.
- Coordinate with critical-path activities such as slab pours, structural steel, tilt-up panels, roofing, services rough-in, and office fitout.
- Ensure long‑lead items (e.g., structural steel, precast, roller shutters, fire systems) are sequenced and installed without impacting milestones.
4. Quality Assurance & Defect Control
- Implement QA processes aligned with project specifications, NCC requirements, and client standards.
- Conduct regular quality inspections and manage defect rectification prior to PC.
5. Subcontractor & Supplier Coordination
- Schedule and coordinate with subcontractors to ensure efficient workflow and minimal trade clashes.
- Verify subcontractor compliance with scope, safety requirements, and QA documentation.
- Manage deliveries, laydown areas, and logistics—critical on constrained industrial sites.
6. Stakeholder & Client Communication
- Maintain solid communication with the Project team, client representatives, consultants, and inspectors.
- Participate in team meetings and provide updates on progress, risks, and upcoming works.
- Manage relationships with tenants, neighbouring businesses, and authorities (council, Energex, QUU, fire certifiers).
7. Environmental & Site Controls
- Ensure compliance with environmental obligations including erosion control, dust suppression, noise management, and waste disposal.
- Manage site access, traffic control, and parking—especially important in industrial estates.
8. Contract Administration Support
- Assist the Project team with variations, site instructions, EOT claims, and progress reporting.
- Maintain accurate site records: diaries, photos, delivery dockets, and subcontractor attendance.
- Verify completed works for progress claims and subcontractor payments.
9. Commissioning, Handover & Close‑Out
- Oversee commissioning of building services (HVAC, fire, electrical, security, hydraulics).
- Coordinate practical completion inspections, defect lists, and client walk-throughs.
- Ensure all O&M; manuals, as‑built drawings, and compliance certificates are completed for handover.
Pay: $90,000.00 – $135,000.00 per year
