About Katherine West Health Board

Katherine West Health Board (KWHB) is a community-controlled Aboriginal health service delivering integrated primary healthcare, family support, and wellbeing programs across 162,000 km² in the Northern Territory.

Grounded in Aboriginal cultural values and self-determination, KWHB takes a holistic approach to care supporting the spiritual, cultural, emotional, and social wellbeing of the communities they serve.

You’ll be joining a welcoming, collaborative team committed to culturally safe care and meaningful outcomes for Aboriginal women, children, and families

What’s the role?

This is a unique opportunity to combine midwifery with broader women’s health in a community-based setting.

Working alongside another Midwife & Women’s Health Practitioner, you will:

- Manage a shared caseload of approximately 50–65 women annually

- Provide continuity of care across pregnancy, birth, and postnatal stages

- Deliver comprehensive women’s health services including contraception, cervical screening, and preventative care

- Support health promotion and education across remote communities

- Work closely with local healthcare teams to strengthen maternal health capability

- Collaborate with Cultural Liaison Officers to ensure culturally safe care

This role is based in Katherine with regular travel to remote communities across the Katherine West region.

What you need to be successful?

To be successful, you will have:

- AHPRA registration as a Registered Midwife or Registered Nurse/Midwife

- Experience in maternal and women’s health

Highly regarded:

- Dual registration (RN/RM)

- Experience in remote, rural, or community settings

- Experience working with Aboriginal communities

- Skills in women’s health (contraception, cervical screening, preventative care)

- Health promotion or workforce development experience

- Endorsed Midwife status (or working towards)

You’ll bring a relationship-focused, adaptable, and culturally respectful approach, with a genuine interest in community engagement and continuity of care.
