Our client is an industry leader in Bovine Embryo Transfer and cattle production. They are passionate about increasing the efficiency of farm production through smarter cattle management, improved genetics, and providing services to other farmers so they can do the same.
Our clients are seeking an energetic, team-oriented and trustworthy candidate to join their growing team in an Overseer capacity. This role will ideally appeal to someone wanting to refine and broaden their skills with industry leaders in the bovine artificial breeding industry. With a very high level of animal husbandry as part of the position, the successful candidate will be responsible for running the large recipient and donor herds consisting of over 1,400 head.
The role is located in the Riverina division of this exciting business, which currently owns and leases 1,300 Ha near Henty and Holbrook, NSW. These properties are very well provisioned with state-of-the-art Proway cattle yards, central laneway systems, and water points. The successful candidate will be expected to oversee each property with the closest attention to detail, reside on the Henty enterprise, and travel to additional properties when required. Each farm has undergone extensive pasture renovation programs, with contractors used for spraying and sowing. This will continue as required.
Day-to-day duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Programming the donor and recipient cows for embryo collection and implantation.
- Implementing rotational grazing systems.
- Calving down pregnant cows and tagging calves at birth.
- Overseeing the health and welfare of the herd.
- Overseeing the development of the property, which will include further pasture improvements, water systems, fencing, laneways, and paddock subdivision to allow for additional rotational grazing.

The Ideal Candidate
Ideally, you will possess a passion for working with livestock, well-developed skills (or a keen interest to learn) in pasture management and a strong work ethic. A good understanding of animal behaviour and an ability to work with stock in a low-stress manner are essential, as well as compassion and care for the animals under your control. Attention to detail, computer-based organisational skills, and record-keeping, particularly in Excel,
herd-based software, and agricultural apps, are necessary. You will ideally possess the following personal attributes:
- A professional approach to your work, along with integrity and enthusiasm.
- Excellent communication skills, high attention to detail and the ability to organise and plan.
- Willing to challenge existing beliefs. Be open to change and possess a 'best practice' approach.
- Have an evidence/science-based decision-making process.
- Possesses computer literacy and embraces the use of technology.
This full-time role is well-suited to an experienced agricultural graduate with 3 to 8 years of practical farming experience, particularly in cattle work. Although a tertiary qualification would be an advantage, it is not essential.
