As a Service Engineer, you will provide technical leadership and hands-on engineering support to lift locomotive performance, reduce service disruptions and strengthen maintenance standards.

You will work alongside Reliability Engineers, Quality Assurance Engineers, Service Support Desk Coordinators and maintenance teams to diagnose, investigate and resolve locomotive issues, while driving continuous improvement across our Rail Maintenance division.

This is a role for someone who brings technical credibility, sound judgement and a strong safety mindset—and who wants to make a visible difference in a fast-moving rail environment.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the position includes the following responsibilities:

- Be the technical voice that helps keep rail maintenance safe, reliable and moving
- Lead the charge on complex locomotive faults, working with maintenance teams and the service support desk
- Turn technical insight into stronger asset reliability, availability and train service performance
- Guide Quality Assurance Engineers to build safe, practical and technically sound maintenance instructions
- Dig into faults,



uncover root causes and produce technical insights that drive action
- Help shape engineering and maintenance changes from first idea through to implementation
- Influence engineering strategy, compliance and continuous improvement across rail maintenance
- Champion safe work practices that support every person going home safely each day.

Desired Skills and Experience

Essential Licensing, Experience and Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will bring a solid mix of technical expertise, practical rail maintenance experience and the ability to influence outcomes across diverse teams. You will ideally have:

- Tertiary Engineering qualification with at least five years’ rail engineering experience, or a maintenance trade qualification with significant rail industry experience
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, including piping and electrical schematics
- Working knowledge of locomotive technology, including inverters, control circuits and braking systems
- Strong fault-finding, preventative maintenance and problem-solving experience
- Robust communication, organisation and stakeholder engagement skills
- Commitment to teamwork, safety and continuous improvement
- Workshop supervision or maintenance leadership experience, highly regarded
- Ability to obtain and maintain a pre-employment Category 3 Rail Medical
- Ability to participate in an on-call roster as required.
