About us:
Situated across 40 acres of beautiful coastal terrain on traditional Eastern Maar and & Gunditjmara country, the Excellent Ocean Road Wildlife Park provides a spacious, natural and ecologically sound environment for Australia's iconic native fauna.
What we are looking for-
As our Operational and Reception Centre Manager, you will be the face of the sanctuary, guiding day-to-day administrative and logistical mechanics of the entire facility. You will lead a high performing team of staff, working closely with wildlife keepers, horticulturist, and volunteers. Crucially, you will ensure that every tourist, family, and tour group leaves with a deeper appreciation for Australian ecology and conservation.
Key responsibilities-
- Front of house Leadership: manage daily operations at the main reception hub, overseeing visitor entry, POS systems, retail inventory, Manage tour groups and group bookings.
- Facility oversight: manage park infrastructure, maintenance schedules and safety compliance.
- Team and Volunteer coordination: Hire, roster, and mentor staff and coordinate daily scheduling for our hands on volunteers.
- Cross Department Coordination: Work alongside animal curation, horticulture and vet teams to ensure public exhibits align with safety and animal welfare standards.
- Conservation & wildlife Advocacy: Actively educate the public on our resident species- including our dingoes, wombats, koala and unique walkthrough wallaby sanctuary,
and promote regional biodiversity protection. Be involved in our educational animal encounters with respectful interactions with visitors.
What we are looking for
- Proven management experience: solid experience supervising teams in a tourism venue.
- Fauna and ecology Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge of native Australian wildlife, habitat threats and genuine passion for environmental sustainability. Ideally have a background with wildlife parks or zoos.
- Excellent communication with ability to engage comfortably with both local families and international travelers.
- Rostering and POS competence: Confident utilizing booking platforms, processing inventory, and building fair compliant staff rosters.
- Must be willing to obtain first aid and Valid Victorian Working with Children’s Check.
