Job Details
Are you passionate about supporting people to live the life they choose, and helping a local team deliver safe, person-centred support on Kangaroo Island?
Livit Disability Support is seeking applications for a Team Leader opportunity based on Kangaroo Island.
This opportunity may suit either:
- an experienced leader who already has the skills, qualifications and experience to step into a Team Leader role; or
- a local person with strong values, reliability, communication skills and leadership potential who is keen to develop through a supported pathway.
For external applicants, you must currently live locally on Kangaroo Island or already have confirmed local accommodation and availability to work on the Island.
About the opportunity
The Team Leader is responsible for supporting a team of Support Workers to deliver quality, person-centred services and positive outcomes for clients. The role includes supporting staff, monitoring service delivery, responding to local service matters, communicating with clients and families, and escalating risks or concerns appropriately. The Team Leader also plays an important role in reinforcing Livit's values and supporting a safe, capable and connected local workforce.
We recognise that the strongest candidate may already have Team Leader experience, or may be someone local who has the right potential and commitment but needs structured development before moving into the full role.
For this reason, Livit is open to considering applicants through either:
- a direct appointment into a full-time Team Leader position for a candidate who already possesses the required qualifications, experience and capability; or
- a supported Developmental Team Leader Pathway for a candidate who demonstrates the potential to grow into the role through structured coaching, mentoring and leadership development.
This could be a great fit if you:
- care deeply about safe, respectful and person-centred disability support;
- communicate well with clients, families, team members and leaders;
- are reliable, organised and able to follow through on agreed actions;
- can remain calm, skilled and practical when responding to issues;
- are open to coaching, feedback and learning;
- understand the importance of local relationships and strong team culture on Kangaroo Island;
- have experience in disability, community services, health, human services or another people-focused environment; and
- are interested in either stepping into, or developing toward, a local leadership role.
What we are looking for
Experienced Team Leader Applicants
We are interested in hearing from applicants who can demonstrate relevant leadership experience, strong judgement, confidence supporting staff,
and the ability to coordinate safe and effective services.
The formal Team Leader role requires either Certificate IV in Leadership and Management or equivalent, or 3+ years' leadership and management experience. Where this requirement is not fully met, the successful person may be required to undertake Certificate IV in Leadership and Management in line with their employment arrangements.
Developmental Pathway Applicants
You do not need to feel like a fully developed Team Leader already.
If you are local to Kangaroo Island and can demonstrate the right values, reliability, communication, judgement, learning agility and willingness to receive coaching, you may be considered for a supported developmental pathway. This pathway may include mentoring, coaching, observation, gradual responsibility, participation in development activities and regular readiness checkpoints.
The developmental pathway is expected to run for up to 12 months, with transition into the full Team Leader role only occurring if readiness is confirmed.
Development Pathway Support
If a developmental appointment is made, the successful person will be supported through a staged pathway. This may include:
- direct line management, assessment and progression oversight from the Client Services Manager;
- structured mentoring and practical support from an experienced Team Leader;
- participation in leadership development activities;
- opportunities to attend relevant meetings and observe Team Leader responsibilities;
- gradual exposure to local leadership, documentation, team communication and service coordination tasks;
- broader service exposure, including opportunities to spend time with mainland teams and leaders; and
- formal readiness checkpoints before any move into full Team Leader accountability.
Formal Team Leader accountability does not automatically transfer during the development period. Progression will be evidence-based and will only occur where safe judgement, capability and readiness are demonstrated.
Employment and Study Arrangements
For applicants appointed directly into the Team Leader role, the position will be offered as a full-time Team Leader appointment, subject to operational requirements and employment arrangements.
For a developmental appointment, the proposed model includes a 0.60 FTE Team Leader development allocation, with the potential for additional rostered support work where elected and operationally required. If Certificate IV Leadership and Management is approved and commenced during the pathway,
Livit will fund the qualification and provide protected study time as part of the approved arrangement.
Some study will still be required in the employee's own time.
Employment and Remuneration
Livit is open to appointing either an experienced Team Leader or a successful candidate through the Developmental Team Leader Pathway, with remuneration and employment arrangements reflecting the appointment made.
Experienced Team Leader Appointment
Applicants appointed directly into the Team Leader role will be employed in a full-time Team Leader position and classified in accordance with the SCHADS Award Team Leader classification structure.
Classification: SCHADS Award Level 3
Employment Status: Full Time
Salary Range: $80K - $85,800K per annum plus super (Dependent on relevant qualifications, experience and applicable pay point)
Developmental Team Leader Pathway Appointment
Applicants appointed through the Developmental Team Leader Pathway will initially be employed at:
Classification: SCHADS Award Level 2 Pay Point 4 during the developmental period.
Hourly Rate: $39.53 per hour plus super
Employment Arrangement: 0.60 FTE Team Leader development allocation, with the ability to undertake additional rostered Support Worker shifts where elected and operationally required.
The developmental pathway provides structured coaching, mentoring, leadership development opportunities and formal readiness assessments over a period of up to 12 months. Progression into the Team Leader role is not automatic and will only occur where capability, performance and readiness have been demonstrated.
Upon successful completion of the pathway and appointment into the Team Leader position, the employee will transition to the applicable Team Leader classification and full-time working arrangements.
Essential Requirements
Applicants must be able to meet the role's mandatory requirements, including:
- NDIS Worker Check;
- Working with Children Check;
- Australian Driver's Licence;
- First Aid and CPR;
- Safe Environments for Children and Young People;
- Medication competency;
- Manual Handling competency; and
- ability to maintain all mandatory role requirements.
