The Bull & Barley Inn, a family‑owned hotel offering bistro meals and bar service in Cambooya, Queensland, is seeking an experienced Sous Chef to join our kitchen team on a full‑time basis.
About the Role
The Sous Chef will support the Head Chef in the daily operation of a busy commercial kitchen, ensuring high‑quality food preparation, consistency, and compliance with food safety standards. The role includes supervising kitchen staff, coordinating service, and contributing to menu development.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, cook, and present menu items to a high standard
- Assist with menu planning, specials, and recipe development
- Supervise and train kitchen staff
- Maintain food quality, portion control, and presentation standards
- Ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene regulations
- Monitor stock levels, assist with ordering, and manage wastage
- Coordinate service during busy periods
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised kitchen environment
Skills & Experience Required
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a commercial kitchen
- Experience supervising kitchen staff
- Strong cooking skills across a variety of dishes
- Knowledge of food safety standards (HACCP)
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast‑paced setting
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Relevant culinary qualifications (highly regarded)

Pay: $70,000.00 – $80,000.00 per year
