Our client, T & G Farms Pty Ltd is seeking a Mixed Crop Farmer to join their team.

Roles and responsibilities:

- Research and select appropriate crop varieties for pumpkin, orange, zucchini, grapes and watermelon considering their characteristics and that are well suited to the local climate and soil conditions.
- Oversee and manage all aspects of crop production and farm operations to guarantee timely cultivation and harvesting while ensuring efficient and effective farming practices are implemented to grow high-quality pumpkin, orange, zucchini, grapes and watermelon.
- Prepare the soil for planting by tilling, adding organic manure and fertilisers, and ensuring proper drainage to promote healthy root development and optimal growing conditions for the crops.
- Cultivate the crops with appropriate spacing and depth requirements, maintain crop health and productivity by regular de-budding and pruning of plants.
- Implement irrigation methods to ensure adequate water supply for crop growth.
- Monitor crops for pests, weeds, and diseases, and implement integrated pest management (IPM) strategies and maintain optimal growing conditions.
- Harvest yield at the peak of ripeness by applying proper harvesting techniques to maximize flavour, quality and ensure a continuous supply.
- Organise farming operations, direct and supervise laborers in carrying out various farm tasks from planting to harvest and despatch of yield and provide training where necessary.
- Recruit and oversee casual workers during planting and harvest seasons.
- Assess crop log data,



including spraying withholding periods and fertilizer plans, and summarize the results to document crop production findings.
- Develop marketing plans for crops, understand market demands, and coordinate production and harvest operations to meet demand and contract requirements.
- Ensure the maintenance and repair of farm facilities, machinery, equipment, and water supply systems to maintain optimal functionality.
- Manage the inventory of farm equipment and supplies, making informed purchasing decisions.
- Manage financial assets by strategically allocating funds, optimizing tax liabilities and effectively managing debt and loans to ensure financial stability and growth.
- Stay updated on the latest farming techniques, technologies, and regulations to optimize farm yield through process improvements, while maintaining expertise in plant and soil sciences.
- Ensure all farm operations comply with regulatory requirements.

Eligibility criteria:

- A bachelor’s degree in agriculture or Horticulture or equivalent work experience.
- 3 years of full-time experience working as a Farmer.
- Deep knowledge of crop production practices.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
- Able to work independently and lead the farm team.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
- Positive understanding of market trends, pricing strategies, and agricultural regulations.

Pay: $75,000.00 – $85,000.00 per year
