Primary objective
To work in Nightcliff High School to strengthen wellbeing and inclusion approaches at the whole school level and support
schools, educators, families and students through evidence-based programs and services that support the wellbeing and
inclusion of students.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide a secure, supportive, culturally and family-inclusive school community that works to support the wellbeing and

inclusion of students under the supervision of school leadership.
2.



Provide trauma-informed social and emotional support, general wellbeing, mentoring, community development

education support, extracurricular activities.
3. Work in partnership with the school’s wellbeing and inclusion team to identify, coordinate and contribute to the school’s

wellbeing plan, procedures and evidence-based programs that support wellbeing and inclusion.
4. Identify, coordinate and liaise to build, maintain and actively promote referral pathways for families and students through

internal and external local and online supports, in partnership with principals and families.
5. Ensure adherence to legislation, policy frameworks, guidelines and national principles for child safe organisations.
6. Maintain appropriate records, case notes and prepare reports as required.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Ability to support delivery of whole-school approaches including evidence-based programs targeting issues that affect

wellbeing, such as bullying, racism and inclusion of students.
2. Proven ability to provide trauma-informed support for students experiencing significant wellbeing challenges and

behaviours associated with childhood trauma or disability through whole of school, group work and/or one to one
support.

Initiate referrals in collaboration with the school and family where it is considered that therapeutic interventions are
needed.

4. Demonstrated communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse
professional, cultural and linguistic backgrounds, which includes First Nations people.

5. Demonstrated organisational, time management and problem-solving skills; ability to maintain confidentiality with the
capacity to show sensitivity when dealing with complex situations.

6. Apply and work within legislation, policy and guidelines.
7. Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team including education staff, health professionals, families, non-government

organisations, and members of the broader community.

Desirable
1. A Certificate IV or equivalent in a relevant field that includes competencies in mental health and making appropriate

referrals, providing pastoral care and working with children and/or young people.
2. Demonstrated experience in working with students with wellbeing and inclusion needs.

1. All applicants must have a current Working with Children Notice (Ochre Card) from SAFE NT or ability to obtain.
2. Completed/willing to complete CHCMH001 working with people with mental health issues, mandatory reporting of harm

and exploitation of children, trauma responsive practice in education (ACF), eSafety Commission relating to online
incidents and cyberbullying, Be You modules, Child Safe Organisations (NAPCAN) and other Northern Territory Public
Servant training
