Avenel Equine Hospital

Avenel Equine Hospital is in the heart of Victoria’s thoroughbred breeding region about an hour north of Melbourne and provides multidisciplinary specialist services alongside a comprehensive ambulatory service to our local clients. The hospital team consists of veterinary specialists in internal medicine and surgery with a wealth of experience in equine surgery, medicine, diagnostic imaging, anaesthesia, lameness, and reproduction. The veterinary team is supported by nursing, stable, and laboratory staff. With the benefits of a first-class purpose-built hospital and in office laboratory, our team provides 24-hour specialist care for horses.

The Role

There are a variety of nursing roles that are stimulating and fast paced but well supported by an experienced team of specialists,



interns, nurses and horse handlers. These positions would suit both early-in-career nurses and also experienced nurses looking to take the next step in their equine nursing careers and to gain experience in a high case load hospital.

ICU, critical care and surgical nursing positions are for immediate start, offering versatile casual shifts up to full time hours. This is a supported role with ongoing training from experienced nurses and veterinarians.

Skills and Experience

- Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing
- Experience in an on-farm hospital or equine hospital
- The ability to work confidently around young foals
- Prioritise and work effectively within a team
