The Role

You will be part of a team that includes Health Centre Manager, GP, Remote Area Nurses, Aboriginal Health Practitioners and administration staff working alongside community engagement workers, as well as a wide range of outreach specialists and service providers. The position will be supported by an experienced remote leadership team reporting to the Director of Primary Healthcare.

Responsible for providing high quality and culturally appropriate primary healthcare to the community of Gunbalanya and surrounding homelands, including visitors.

An understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal health,



principles of Primary Health Care and relevant legislation governing work practices in a remote health setting.

What you need to be successful

- Current registration with AHPRA

- Experience in remote area setting in Australia

- Proven clinical experience and adaptability

- Strong communication and teamwork skills

- A commitment to ongoing professional development

- Ready to travel to remote communities by air and 4WD,

- Participate in a 24-hour on-call roster.

About Gunbalanya:

300km east of Darwin and 60km northeast of Jabiru across the East Alligator River in Arnhem Land. Gunbalanya is a major Aboriginal town in Arnhem Land, with a school (pre-school to Year 12), service station and convenience store, supermarket, police station, crèche facilities, aged care, sports and social club, butcher and community arts centre in the community.

Access to Gunbalanya:

Year-round via air charter from Jabiru Airport.

Dry season (May – Nov): Road access.

Wet season (Nov – Apr): The river crossing at Cahill’s Crossing, East Alligator River, is usually impassable.
