Location: Whyalla, South Australia.

Status: Full Time Fixed Term Contract working 30 hours per week until 30 June 2027

Annual Salary: from $80,008 to $99,294 per annum based on full time

Hourly Rate: $40.49 to $50.25 per hour (dependent on qualifications/experience)

About the Position

The Counsellor provides effective therapeutic counselling and support services for clients (individuals, couples and families) dealing with a range of difficulties.

As a Counsellor, your responsibilities will include:

- Deliver professional counselling and therapeutic services, including EAP and crisis response support.
- Maintain and enhance counselling programs, referral pathways, and reporting processes in collaboration with management.
- Assess client needs and provide information, support, referrals, and appropriate interventions.
- Develop and facilitate specialist programs on wellbeing, healthy relationships, stress management, anger management, drug education, and protective practices.
- Build and maintain collaborative networks with community agencies and service providers to support client wellbeing.
- Coordinate client services, referrals, and interagency collaboration to ensure client needs are met.
- Maintain accurate client records, reports, evaluations, and data collection in line with organisational, school, and funding requirements.
- Develop and deliver community education initiatives, identify service gaps, support regional programs, and undertake other duties as directed.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have:

Qualification:

- Hold an appropriate Degree in Social Work or a Human Service-related area (relevant to providing Counselling services).
- Current Bachelor Social Work students who can demonstrate successful completion of third year placement encouraged to apply.
- Current Masters Social Work students who can demonstrate completion of their first placement are encouraged to apply.
- Hold a Diploma Counselling

Membership

- Eligibility for membership with relevant professional body (e.g. Australian Association of Social Workers, Australian Counselling Association) where applicable.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

- Experience in the field of therapeutic counselling utilising a high level of skills.
- Experience in developing and facilitating groups, presentations and workshops.
- Sound knowledge of a range of counselling theories and therapeutic interventions.
- Sound knowledge of issues around family relationships and separation, family violence, suicide ideation, peer pressure, bullying, self-esteem, drug and/or alcohol abuse, mental health and mental illness.
- Knowledge of issues related to service delivery in rural and remote areas.




- Knowledge of trauma-informed and culturally safe practices
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Demonstrated ability to work with and be sensitive to the differing needs of people from various cultural groups.
- High level of communication and negotiation skills, both verbally and in writing.
- Effective organisational and time management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a highly confidential manner.
- High level of ability in the use of Microsoft Office and Information Technology.

Requirements of the role:

- Hold (or willingness to obtain) a current DHS Working With Children Check *
- Hold (or a willingness to obtain) a National Criminal History Record Check (Police Check) *
- Hold a current South Australian Driver’s License (minimum Provisional License)
