ABOUT THE ROLE
Optimus Mission Critical Pty Ltd is seeking a motivated and technically capable Mechanical Commissioning Engineer to join our delivery team. This full-time role focuses on the commissioning of Mechanical systems within Tier III–IV data centre environments, supporting the safe and timely delivery of critical infrastructure projects.
As part of the Commissioning Authority (CxA) function, the role will lead, witness, and document all phases of the commissioning lifecycle across electrical systems — from design validation to integrated systems testing and operational handover.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Coordinate and execute mechanical commissioning activities (Levels 1–5), including SAT, FAT/FWT, functional performance testing, and integrated systems testing.
· Interface with design consultants, contractors, OEM vendors, and internal stakeholders to ensure commissioning aligns with project specifications and Optimus standards.
· Review design documents, shop drawings, submittals, and OEM manuals for compliance and commissioning readiness.
· Oversee the testing of systems including chillers and associated pumps and broader main central plant, FWU, AHU, CRAH, CRAC, HDC and cooling towers, OAP, OAHU make up units, BMS, BAS central monitoring systems, Fuel oil and bulk fuel storage systems.
· Support test planning, load bank coordination, and BMS interface validation.
· Manage test documentation, punch lists, issue logs, and final reporting for turnover to operations.
· Maintain safe working practices and ensure compliance with company QSE policies, company objectives and all customer site procedures.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
· Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering
· Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering role in data centres, including experience on working on data centres which are at least 50MW, and experience in both design and commissioning
· Strong understanding of Australian and global Standards ie, BSRIA, CIBSE, ASHRAE
· Ability to interpret single-line diagrams, Sequence of operations (SOO), equipment submittals
· Demonstrated ability to operate in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary project team
· Solid documentation and reporting skills using Microsoft Office and commissioning tools and software
· Valid White Card and current LVR/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
