FORKLIFT DRIVER – STEEL INDUSTRY

About the Role

We are a busy steel fabrication and laser cutting facility based in Thomastown, seeking an experienced Forklift Driver to join our production team. This is a hands-on, fast-paced role that is critical to our daily operations. You will be working across material receiving, storage, machine loading, and sorting — playing a key part in keeping production running smoothly and safely.

Key Responsibilities

- Unloading steel deliveries from trucks safely and efficiently
- Loading sheet metal and steel material onto automated laser cutting machines
- Assisting the sorting team with unloading cassettes from the automation system
- Labelling and marking pallets with correct material size, grade, and thickness information
- Maintaining a clean, tidy, and organised storage and work area always
- Accurately placing and storing material in designated locations
- Operating forklift in a confined workshop environment with strict safety compliance
- Conducting pre-start checks and basic forklift maintenance
- Assisting with general warehouse and production duties as required
- Communicating effectively with production staff and store personnel regarding material requirements.

Skills & Experience Required

- Current and valid LF (Forklift) Licence – mandatory
- Demonstrated experience in the steel, metal fabrication,



or manufacturing industry
- Confident handling heavy and oversized steel sheet material
- Strong understanding of safe material handling practices and workplace safety (WHS)
- Experience working in a fast-paced job shop or production environment
- Ability to read and interpret pallet labels, material specifications, and job instructions
- Reliable, punctual, and a strong team player
- Good communication skills and attention to detail
- Physically fit and capable of working in an industrial setting

Desirable (but not essential)

- Experience operating in a laser cutting or sheet metal environment
- Familiarity with automation system unloading or sorting operations
- Experience with overhead cranes or other materials handling equipment
- First Aid Certificate
