About us

The Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) is responsible for the supervision of children and young people in the Victorian criminal justice system. Youth Justice is responsible for overseeing services within custody and the community that respond to children and young people in the system, and for delivering strategic outcomes to address youth crime and reduce offending.

What you will do

As policy officer, you will support policy, project and reform work that strengthens Victoria's youth justice system.

You will help deliver priority reforms while working across teams to develop practical solutions and informed advice.

You will:

- support priority policy and reform projects from planning through to delivery
- prepare high-quality briefings, reports and advice for senior decision-makers
- identify emerging issues, risks and opportunities that may affect key reforms
- analyse financial and policy information to support planning and decision-making
- contribute to important youth justice and legal policy reforms while building positive working relationships.

About you

A qualification in social work, public policy, law, criminal justice or a related field is desirable. Experience in public sector policy or project work, and knowledge of Victorian Government processes, will be highly regarded.

You should also have:

- strong research, policy analysis and writing skills




- the ability to understand complex issues and develop practical solutions
- sound project management skills with the ability to meet deadlines
- clear communication skills and the ability to build productive working relationships.
