Maitland City Council provides unpaid work experience opportunities for high school, TAFE, and university students. These placements offer a valuable chance to gain hands-on experience, learn from our staff, and develop current skills while exploring potential career paths. While we strive to accommodate all applicants in their preferred area where possible, placements are subject to availability. Applications will be assessed based on the timing of the placement, workload demands, and the availability of staff to mentor and supervise students.

How to apply for work experience

We ask that you submit your application at least four weeks prior to your preferred start date. As part of your application, you will need to include:
- Documentation from your educational institution, such as a Student Placement Record (for high school students) or a letter indicating that work experience is a mandatory requirement of your course and is covered by the institution’s insurance
- A resume (for university students only)
- Parent/caregiver permission (for applicants under 18 years old)
- Public liability letter of currency
- Your preferred work experience areas and dates
