The Pink Roadhouse is seeking an experienced Accommodation & Hospitality Manager to oversee the day-to-day operation of our remote hospitality, accommodation and tourism business in Oodnadatta, South Australia.
This is a senior, hands-on management position involving responsibility across accommodation, café, licensed liquor, retail, tourism and a co-located Australia Post Licensed Post Office. It is not an entry-level management, shift-supervisor or general front-of-house position.
The successful applicant must relocate to and reside in Oodnadatta on an ongoing basis. This is not a fly-in fly-out or drive-in drive-out position.
Key responsibilities
- Manage the daily operation of the roadhouse, café, licensed bar and accommodation facilities
- Supervise, roster, recruit, train and performance-manage staff
- Oversee liquor licensing, RSA, food-safety and WHS compliance
- Act as a Responsible Person for the licensed premises once approved
- Manage accommodation bookings, housekeeping standards and guest services
- Manage stock control, purchasing, supplier relationships, margins and operating costs
- Oversee cash handling, reconciliations, reporting and administrative processes
- Oversee the co-located Australia Post Licensed Post Office, including customer transactions, mail and parcel services, reconciliations and compliance procedures
- Resolve staffing, customer and operational issues independently
- Develop and implement operational procedures
- Support business planning and continuous operational improvement
- Build respectful working relationships with local residents, Aboriginal community members, contractors and tourists
Essential skills and experience
Applicants must demonstrate:
- At least two years’ experience in a comparable hospitality or accommodation management position
- Management responsibilities extending beyond shift supervision or general hospitality duties
- Experience managing a multi-faceted operation involving accommodation, food service and licensed hospitality
- Proven responsibility for staff rostering, recruitment, training,
supervision and performance management
- Experience with stock control, purchasing, supplier management and cost control
- Experience managing cash reconciliations, operational reporting and compliance procedures
- The ability to make independent operational and staffing decisions without daily in office direction
- A demonstrated understanding of the practical requirements and limitations of living and working in a remote community
- Willingness and ability to relocate to and reside in Oodnadatta on an ongoing basis
- Availability to work weekends and public holidays as required by the management roster
- Current Responsible Service of Alcohol certification, or the ability to obtain it before commencing
- Eligibility and willingness to obtain and maintain South Australian Responsible Person approval
- Ability and willingness to complete all required Australia Post training, accreditation and compliance requirements
- Ability to obtain a satisfactory National Police Check and satisfy the probity requirements associated with Australia Post services and liquor-licensing responsibilities
Highly desirable experience
- Previous experience living and working in a remote or very remote location
- Experience working respectfully with Aboriginal communities, customers and community organisations
- Experience managing both accommodation and licensed hospitality operations
- Experience in an outback tourism, roadhouse or remote-area business
- Experience operating or supervising an Australia Post Licensed Post Office, postal agency or comparable regulated service
- Experience handling secure transactions, customer information and strict procedural compliance
- Experience using point-of-sale, accommodation-booking,
rostering and financial-reporting systems
- Current South Australian Responsible Person approval
- Current Australian driver’s licence
- Current first-aid certification
Employment details
- Full-time, ongoing position
- Salary: $90,000 per annum plus superannuation
- Accommodation may be available under a separate arrangement
- Location: Oodnadatta, South Australia
- Weekend and public-holiday work will form part of the management roster
Employment will be subject to a satisfactory National Police Check and completion of the required Australia Post and liquor-licensing approval processes.
