A popular Indian restaurant on Victoria’s beautiful Mornington Peninsula is seeking their next skilled and passionate Cook to join their busy kitchen team!

SkillQuest Solutions are seeking a qualified and experienced Cook on behalf of our client, a well-established restaurant renowned for serving authentic North Indian cuisine prepared using traditional recipes, aromatic spices and premium ingredients. Conveniently located in the heart of Rye, the restaurant has built a strong reputation amongst locals and visitors alike for its welcoming atmosphere, exceptional customer service and extensive menu featuring classic curries, tandoori specialties, freshly baked naan breads, vegetarian dishes and seafood favourites. The restaurant offers takeaway, catering and group dining services.

Position - Cook

Location – Rye, Victoria 3941

Salary - $79,000 - $89,000 plus superannuation per annum

Employment Type - Full-time, Permanent

THE ROLE:

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Cook to work in a fast-paced commercial kitchen specialising in authentic Indian cuisine. The successful applicant will be responsible for preparing high-quality dishes, maintaining consistency in flavour and presentation, and supporting efficient kitchen operations while working closely with the Head Chef.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

· Prepare, season and cook a variety of Indian dishes in accordance with established recipes and restaurant standards.

· Assist the Chef with the preparation and cooking of curries, tandoori dishes, rice dishes, breads, appetisers and traditional accompaniments while maintaining consistency in flavour, quality and presentation.

· Prepare meals to accommodate dietary requirements, including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and allergy-sensitive requests where required.

· Monitor cooking processes and regulate temperatures of ovens, grills, fryers,



and traditional tandoori ovens to ensure protected and consistent food preparation.

· Prepare marinades, curry bases, masalas, sauces and spice blends from scratch using authentic cooking techniques.

· Ensure all meals are portioned correctly and presented to the restaurant’s high standards.

· Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene and cleanliness in accordance with Australian food handling regulations.

· Assist with stock control, receiving deliveries, checking ingredient quality and storing food correctly to minimise waste and maintain freshness.

· Work collaboratively with the kitchen team to ensure efficient service during busy service periods.

· Maintain a clean, organised and safe kitchen environment at all times.

· Follow Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) procedures and safe food handling practices to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

- Relevant qualification, such as a Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery (or agreed equivalent).

- Minimum of 1 year (preferably more) of work experience as a Cook, ideally within an authentic Indian restaurant.

- Experience preparing traditional Indian curries, tandoori dishes, naan breads, marinades, masalas and sauces from scratch.

- Experience in preparing and cooking Indian breads and operating and maintaining traditional clay tandoor ovens.

- Willingness to prepare and cook a variety of proteins, including chicken, lamb, beef,



seafood and vegetarian dishes in accordance with the restaurant’s menu.

- Knowledge of stock control, food preparation, portion control and waste minimisation.

- Dedicated to delivering consistently high-quality food and exceptional presentation.

- Strong knowledge of Australian Food Safety Standards and Workplace Health and Safety requirements.

- Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a busy commercial kitchen.

- Excellent teamwork, communication and organizational skills.

- Available to work across weekday evenings and weekends.

- You must have unrestricted working rights to work full time in Australia to be eligible for consideration.
