The main role of an MSF nurse is to manage and improve the knowledge and skills of the nursing team while building and strengthening teamwork. The scope of work is diverse and varies greatly depending on the location and goal of the project, including pharmacy/medical device management, hygiene management, hospital data management, effective report creation, hospital infection control, and public health activities. In addition to collaborating with other departments within the project, nurses may also be in charge of diplomacy with related organisations.

Activities

- Provide training and follow-up to improve knowledge and skills of locally hired team members
- Oversee the selection process for newly hired local team members
- Transfer of knowledge and practical skills of the team through on the job training to ensure the quality of care provided to neonates
- Manage pharmacy and medical devices
- Collect, manage, and report data; monitor project functions
- Control hospital infections
- Collaborate with the human resources department, logistics department, and finance department
- Lead diplomacy and negotiations with related organisations when required

REQUIREMENTS

Compliance with

- for all potential candidates
- RN (Div.1) status
- Minimum five years nursing (RN) experience with at least two years experience in special care nursery, newborn unit or NICU




- Experience in neonatal resuscitation
- Experience in recognition and management of common neonatal issues such as prematurity, hypoxemia, and hypothermia
- Neonatal nurse experience in identification of severe neonatal issues such as sepsis and asphyxia
- Over one year of infection control experience
- Available for assignment for a minimum of nine months or longer
- Current practising certificate and must display no recent gap in clinical experience greater than two years
- Willingness to abide by Médecins Sans Frontières medical protocols

DESIRABLE

- Additional and/or specific qualification in neonatal nursing
- Experience in additional areas – particularly NICU, PICU, obstetrics, paediatric emergency department
- Work experience or study in nutrition, tropical medicine, infectious diseases (HIV/AIDS, TB), refugee health or international public health
- Senior managerial experience (e.g. clinical nurse facilitator/consultant, manager) clinical education and/or training experience
