About the role
As the Team Leader, Appeals Unit, you will provide technical, operational and people leadership to a team responsible for delivering impartial, evidence-based and high-quality appeal outcomes.

Working closely with the Manager, Appeals and Business Support, you will lead your team to achieve performance targets while ensuring appeals are managed in accordance with legislation, case law and the Queensland Government's model litigant principles.

Your work will contribute to decisions before bodies including the:

- Queensland Industrial Relations Commission (QIRC)
- Industrial Magistrates Court
- Industrial Court of Queensland
- Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT)

In this role you will:

- Lead, coach and develop a high-performing team through regular feedback, mentoring and performance conversations, as well as leading from the front by undertaking tribunal and court appearances.
- Manage the allocation and oversight of appeal matters to ensure timely, consistent and high-quality outcomes.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance on complex legislative, policy and procedural matters.
- Monitor emerging case law and legislative changes and support your team to apply these in practice.
- Develop and deliver technical guidance, procedures and training.
- Build productive relationships with insurers, legal representatives, medical and rehabilitation professionals, inspectorates and other stakeholders.
- Contribute to business improvement initiatives that enhance the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of appeal services.
- Support organisational priorities while fostering a positive, inclusive and psychologically safe workplace culture.

What we're looking for
We're looking for a confident and collaborative leader who can balance people leadership with technical expertise.

You will demonstrate:





- Experience leading and developing teams, including coaching, performance management and fostering an inclusive workplace culture.
- Strong communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills, including capacity for tribunal or court advocacy.
- The ability to interpret and apply legislation, policy and legal principles to complex matters.
- Sound judgement, analytical thinking and solid decision-making skills.
- Experience managing competing priorities while delivering high-quality outcomes.

Knowledge of Queensland's workers' compensation scheme is highly regarded.

Experience or knowledge of work health and safety, electrical safety or labour hire licensing legislation will also be beneficial.
