Senior Analyst, Program Reporting Analyst (Fixed Term) – Sydney, Australia
The Senior Analyst, AML Compliance is under general supervision from senior management.
This position supports the development, implementation and enforcement of policies, procedures and programs designed to minimize potential Compliance risk for Western Union and its affiliates, within the established strategies of the Regulatory Compliance department.
An opportunity to join Western Union’s Compliance Team on a full-time basis for a 24-month period.
Role Responsibilities:
- Leads, coordinates, or participates in assigned regulatory reporting projects simultaneously, including research, analysis, documentation, design/develop testing, problem resolution, training, status reporting, implementation, and post-rollout review/audit.
- Creates and analyses complex data for reporting and potential solutions. May train and mentor lower-level analysts.
- Drive forward outcomes and deliverables under tight deadlines, both at a strategic and tactical level
- Data driven outcomes that help uplift the control setting and help the business grow safely
Role Requirements:
- Education: A degree in commerce, business, law, finance, risk, compliance, or equivalent, with CA qualified or working towards CA (or equivalent).
- Proven Analytical Expertise – 4+ years’ experience in data analysis, business intelligence, or financial/operational reporting within a corporate, banking, fintech, or consulting environment.
- Advanced Data Skills – High proficiency in data extraction and transformation, plus strong skills in Excel (pivot tables, advanced formulas, macros) and at least one BI/visualization tool (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Qlik).
- Reporting Mastery – Experience designing, automating, and maintaining dashboards and reports that are accurate, timely, and tailored to diverse audiences, from operational teams to senior executives.
- Insight-Driven Mindset – Ability to go beyond the numbers to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, and to translate findings into transparent recommendations that influence business decisions.
- Stakeholder Engagement – Strong communication skills to collaborate with finance, operations, compliance, and product teams, ensuring reporting outputs meet business needs.
- Problem-Solving Agility – Comfort working with incomplete or complex datasets, applying critical thinking to resolve data quality issues and deliver meaningful insights.
- Regulatory & Compliance Awareness – Understanding relevant reporting obligations (e.g., AUSTRAC, APRA, ASIC) is highly regarded, particularly in a financial services context.
- Continuous Improvement Focus – A track record of streamlining reporting processes, introducing automation, and improving data governance practices.
- Technical Curiosity – Willingness to explore recent tools, data sources, and analytical techniques to enhance reporting capabilities.
- Team Contribution – Ability to work independently while contributing to a team-oriented, high-performance team culture.
