Solicitor-General's Chambers
Darwin
One full time vacancy fixed to 01/10/2027 is available
The Solicitor-General’s Chambers is seeking a highly organised, professional and discreet individual to deliver high-level administrative, secretarial and paralegal support to the Solicitor-General and legal staff. This role offers a rare opportunity to work within a central government legal office that provides expert advice and representation to the Attorney-General, Cabinet and the executive government. You will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of Chambers while contributing to work of significant public importance.
In this position, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day administration of the Chambers and supporting the Solicitor-General and counsel with a broad range of executive and legal support functions. This includes coordinating complex diaries, arranging meetings, travel and official engagements, and liaising with internal and external stakeholders such as solicitors, counsel, ministerial offices and departmental representatives. You will prepare correspondence, ministerials and legal documentation from minimal instruction, undertake legal research using relevant databases, and maintain legal resources and filing systems. The role also requires providing guidance on government systems and procedures while ensuring all work is handled with a high level of discretion and confidentiality.
The ideal candidate will bring demonstrated experience providing high-level administrative support in a professional environment. You will have strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels. Your success in this role will rely on your initiative, organisational ability and attention to detail, along with your capacity to manage competing priorities and work both independently and collaboratively. Experience in preparing and proof-reading legal or formal documents and undertaking advanced document searches, including use of legal databases such as LexisNexis, will be highly regarded. A professional approach, sound judgement and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality are essential.
Experience working in a legal environment or undertaking law or paralegal studies will be advantageous, as will familiarity with electronic document and records management systems and an understanding of government processes and reporting requirements.
This is an excellent prospect for a motivated and capable professional to contribute to a high-performing legal team within government and gain exposure to complex and meaningful work.
