- Employment Type: Fixed Term (12 months, commencing 1 February 2027 until 6 February 2028), Full Time
- Salary: HM25 to HM30 + Superannuation + Salary Packaging Rotations include exposure to:
- The largest Acute Aged Care program in Victoria
- Orthogeriatrics
- GEM units at Sunshine and Williamstown
- Dementia Support Unit
- Rehabilitation
- Transitional Care
- Aged Persons Mental Health
- Acute inpatient consultation services
- Specialty clinics: Movement Disorders, Falls & Mobility, Falls & Fractures, Wound, Continence, CDAMS, Geriatric Clinic
- Community geriatrics including Residential In-Reach, GEM@Home, AAC@Home (trial), and weekend pilot programs Trainees also participate in:
- Fortnightly statewide VGMTP teaching
- A local Western Alliance education program
- Regular hospital-based teaching, simulation and case-based learning
- Close supervision from senior medical staff and the Western Alliance Fellow
- 15 full-time equivalent Advanced Training positions
- 1 part-time Advanced Training position
- 1 Fellow in Geriatric Medicine (see below) Application requirements:
- Must be registered with AHPRA
- Must hold an appropriate employment visa if not an Australian Citizen or Resident.
- Must be eligible for an advanced training position with RACP.

Key responsibilities

- Perform unit duties as delegated by the Unit Head or Receiving Consultant in accordance with Western Health policies and procedures and relevant legislation.
- Ensure notification to the appropriate consultant of patients referred to the Department, and provision of initial assessment of referred patients.
- Ensure quality patient care via clinical assessment, admissions and development of management plans.

Full time advanced trainees must apply to both:

- Western Health (via careers website) From 2027, PMCV applications will include a standardised recorded interview, accessible only to hospitals nominated by applicants.

Health will use this tool to streamline selection and may reduce the need for individual interviews. All appointments will be made through a centralised match.

Part Time position

- Two 6-months rotations (0.5 FTE)
- 43 hours per fortnight
- Duties and supervision equivalent to a full time Advanced Trainee, adjusted for part-time hours
- Part-time trainee participates in rotations in inpatients and community services, as well as in the weekend roster.
- Integration into the full educational program,

Health has Rural training partnership with Barwon Health Brief outline of RTP position:

- 1 position - 24 months position at Barwon Health (Regional Health Service) as advanced trainee in geriatric medicine followed by 12 months position at Western Health (Metro Health Service) (employment subject to satisfactory performance in previous training year).
- 1 position - 24 months at Western Health followed by 12 months position at Barwon Health. The position is comprised of three 1-year contracts with contracting and supervision remaining the sole responsibility of the health service employing the trainee during that specific year. There is a single combined recruitment process for each position, but employment is subject to satisfactory performance in the previous training year. This position is not part of the PMCV match and is allocated prior to the PMCV match.
