The position exists to identify, evaluate, report on, and recommend controls for environmental and physical hazards that can affect the health and well-being of workers, including airborne contaminants, noise and water quality. The incumbent will safely, productively and cost efficiently contribute to the success of the Health Safety and Training team and the Australian business.
Role Responsibilities
- Coordinate the monitoring of health and hygiene hazards using accepted methodologies
- Investigate and report on any exceedances to exposure standards and identify appropriate actions
- Interpret monitoring data to characterise hazards and health risk
- Hold and meet requirements of the statutory positions of ‘Mine Air Quality Officer’ and ‘Noise Officer’ in line with Schedule 26 of the Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022
- Liaise with Regulatory Bodies (LGIRS and DOH) on occupational health matters
- Enter records into LGIRS SRS system and ensure legislative requirements are met
- Maintain and champion the sites ‘Health Management Plan’ and ‘Health Risk Assessment’ register
- Maintain and champion the sites ‘Drinking Water Quality Management Plan’
- Design, develop and continuously improve occupational heath and hygiene systems including the Health Management Plan and Drinking Water Quality Management Plan, ensuring alignment with best practices and legislated requirements
- Coordinate and facilitate requirements for Mine Health Surveillance, to occupational health hazards, and maintain records
- Advise on control solutions for occupational health hazards and assist in the development of control action plans where required
- Assist in the maintenance of the site databases
- Coordinate and conduct inspections and audits to verify critical controls
- Provide support and coaching to the Advisor on the execution and maintenance of the developed systems and plans
- Undertake additional duties as reasonably requested by your Leaders in line with your skills, experience and competency level.
Role Specific
- Provide guidance on implementation and compliance to the Mine Safety Management System
- To assist in the creation and implementation of the Company’s Health and Safety Strategic Plan that is aligned with proactively reducing exposure and adding value to the Safety culture of the site and its employees
- Maintain occupational health and hygiene systems as per the ‘Health and Hygiene Management Plan’, ‘Drinking Water Quality Management Plan’ and in line with legislated requirements
- Advise department leaders and management team on effective control measures of occupational health and hygiene hazards and provide training to the workforce

Required
- 3+ years’ experience in a similar role
- Tertiary qualifications in occupational health or similar
- Mine Air Quality Officer qualification and previous experience as an appointed Mine Air Quality Officer
- Noise Officer qualification and previous experience as an appointed Noise Officer
- Demonstrated experience implementing, executing and supporting hygiene programs within WA’s mining industry
- Solid technical report writing skills and high attention to data quality
- Proficiency using excel and the Microsoft office suite.
- Detailed knowledge of health and hygiene risk, statutory reporting requirements and applicable standards / codes of practice
- Drivers’ Licence
Desired
- Full membership to the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists
- Audiometric Officer qualifications or experience conducting audiometric assessments
- Experience conducting water quality monitoring
- LGIRS SRS System Experience
