The Opportunity An prospect is available for an experienced APS6 Senior Policy Officer to join a high‑performing team. This 12+12‑month part‑time labour hire contract will see you contribute to nationally significant trade policy initiatives, supporting the implementation of government priorities while working closely with senior stakeholders across Australia and the Indo‑Pacific region. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in policy, international affairs, economics or trade who enjoys working on complex projects, developing evidence‑based advice and influencing strategic outcomes.
The Role
Working within a collaborative policy team, you will contribute to the implementation of Australia’s bilateral free trade agreement priorities by providing high‑quality policy analysis, stakeholder engagement and project coordination.
Your responsibilities will include
- Supporting feasibility studies and strategic projects relating to Australia’s bilateral trade agreements - Undertaking economic, trade and policy analysis to inform government decision‑making - Preparing ministerial briefs, reports, submissions and policy advice for senior executives - Coordinating project plans, governance arrangements, risks and reporting activities - Building productive relationships with government agencies, industry, academia,
First Nations organisations and international stakeholders - Supporting stakeholder consultations and engagement activities across a broad range of sectors - Assisting with the delivery of strategic government priorities within agreed timeframes The Ideal Person You are an experienced policy professional who enjoys solving complex problems and turning detailed information into practical, evidence‑based advice. You are confident working with senior stakeholders, comfortable managing competing priorities and thrive in collaborative environments.
You will bring
