Associate – Environment & Planning (2+ PAE)

The Opportunity

Our client, a leading national law firm, is seeking an Associate to join its highly regarded Environment & Planning team in Sydney.

This is an excellent opportunity to work within a respected practice advising both public and private sector clients on complex planning, environmental, administrative, and government law matters. You'll gain exposure to a broad mix of litigation and advisory work, acting on significant development projects and high-profile planning matters while working alongside experienced practitioners in a collaborative and supportive team.

The Role

- Advise clients on planning, environmental, administrative, and local government law matters.
- Act in Class 1, 3, 4 and 5 proceedings in the NSW Land and Environment Court.
- Provide strategic advice on planning approvals, statutory interpretation, development contributions,



and regulatory compliance.
- Draft and negotiate planning agreements and other planning-related documentation.
- Work closely with developers, government agencies, and private sector clients on complex projects.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships while delivering practical, commercially focused legal advice.

Ideal Candidate

- 2+ years' post-admission experience in planning and environment law.
- Experience with Land and Setting Court litigation.
- Strong advisory experience, including statutory interpretation and planning approvals.
- Experience drafting planning agreements or related planning documentation.
- Excellent drafting, analytical, and communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple matters effectively.
- A collaborative approach and a genuine interest in developing a long-term career in planning and environment law.
