At Central Coast Local Health District (CCLHD), we are committed to Trusted Care, Better Health for Everyone, and we are looking for a dedicated Suicide Prevention Peer Worker to join our Mental Health Services team. This rewarding role provides an opportunity to use your lived experience of recovery from suicidality to provide hope, connection and support to people experiencing suicidal distress.
About The Opportunity As a Suicide Prevention Peer Worker, you will provide recovery-oriented, trauma-informed and person-centred peer support to individuals experiencing suicidality across Mental Health Acute Services. Drawing on your lived experience, you will support consumers to build hope, strengthen recovery, enhance wellbeing, and connect with the services and resources they need to thrive in the community.
Role This position plays a key role in supporting recovery and reducing the impact of suicidal crisis. In this role you will:
- Provide peer support to people experiencing suicidality, drawing on lived experience to promote hope and recovery.
- Support consumers with recovery and wellness planning using person-centred and trauma-informed approaches.
- Connect consumers with community services and supports that address their ongoing needs
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders to support positive consumer outcomes.
- Participate in quality improvement, service evaluation and data collection activities.
- Engage in professional development, peer supervision and maintain compliance with NSW Health policies and procedures
For more information about this role, please view the Position Description About You We are looking for someone who has:
- Personal lived experience of a suicidal crisis and the ability to purposefully use this experience to provide peer support and inspire hope in others.
- Completion of Intentional Peer Support (IPS) and Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work (Consumer), or willingness to obtain the qualification within required timeframes.
- Demonstrated experience applying person-centred, recovery-oriented and trauma-informed approaches when supporting people at risk of suicide.
- Knowledge of suicide prevention principles, including crisis response, safety planning, risk management and appropriate referral pathways
- Understanding of recovery-oriented practice and a commitment to lived experience involvement in service design, delivery and evaluation.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with consumers, families, carers, colleagues and key stakeholders, supported by strong communication, negotiation and time management skills.
