About the role
Cooktown Bowls Club is seeking an experienced Chef/Cook to join our hospitality team on a full time basis. This is an exciting prospect to lead our culinary operations and deliver exceptional dining experiences to our members and guests at our venue in Cooktown, QLD 4895. As Chef/Cook, you will be responsible for menu planning, food preparation, and kitchen management, playing a vital role in maintaining the high standards of service and cuisine that define our club.
What you'll be doing
- Preparing and cooking a variety of meals to the highest standards, ensuring consistency in quality and presentation
- Planning and designing menus that appeal to our diverse membership base and reflect seasonal ingredients
- Managing kitchen operations, including food preparation, cooking techniques, and plating
- Maintaining strict hygiene and food safety standards, adhering to all relevant health and safety regulations
- Controlling food costs and managing kitchen inventory and stock levels efficiently
- Training and supervising kitchen staff, fostering a collaborative and productive team environment
- Liaising with management regarding special events, functions, and catering requirements
- Ensuring the kitchen remains clean, organised and well-maintained at all times
- Monitoring food quality and waste management to optimise operational efficiency
What we're looking for
- Proven experience working as a Chef/Cook in a busy hospitality environment, ideally within a club or restaurant setting
- Strong culinary knowledge and technical skills, with the ability to prepare a wide range of dishes
- Current Food Safety Certification or willingness to obtain it
- Excellent knowledge of food hygiene practices and compliance with food safety standards
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure whilst maintaining quality and attention to detail
- Strong organisational and time management skills, with the capacity to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Leadership experience and the ability to motivate and train kitchen staff effectively
- Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with front-of-house and management teams
- Flexibility with working hours, including weekends and public holidays as required
- A passion for food, creativity, and continuously improving culinary offerings
