We are seeking an experienced Construction Lead to oversee the delivery of a portfolio of self-performed civil earthworks capital projects for a tier-one mining operation in regional Queensland. In this site-based leadership role, you will lead frontline teams to safely deliver complex construction works while meeting project objectives across safety, quality, cost, schedule and environmental performance.
You will supervise a multidisciplinary workforce of operators and trades across multiple capital projects. You will provide strong field leadership, coordinate daily construction activities, manage equipment and resources, support project delivery teams and foster a high-performing, collaborative culture focused on safe and efficient execution.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a respected project team delivering technically challenging projects while contributing to long-term capital works within a large-scale mining environment.
This role will be on a rolling 12-month contract, working a 16:12 roster.
Key Responsibilities
- Support Sustaining Capital Projects Leadership to champion a high-performance culture onsite.
- Lead and direct a team of up to 50 plant operators and trades, assigning tasks, providing guidance, giving clear direction, fostering collaboration, and maintaining positive working relationships with team members and contractors.
- Oversee the delivery of civil earthworks programs, directing work activities to ensure schedule, quality and compliance requirements are achieved while managing changing priorities and workloads.
- Plan, coordinate and manage project resources, including equipment, plant and material requirements, ensuring resources are available, organised and utilised efficiently.
- Review and interpret permits, plans and technical drawings, providing technical guidance and support to project stakeholders, line managers and engineers.
- Monitor project progress, manage schedule compliance, identify risks and develop corrective action plans to ensure successful project delivery within required parameters.
- Prepare accurate daily supervisor reports and complete all required project documentation.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors and stakeholders, acting as a secondary point of contact while ensuring project requirements are understood and effectively executed.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement to enhance project delivery and operational performance.
- Provide safety leadership by developing and maintaining a strong safety culture, delivering daily pre-start meetings, and ensuring compliance with all HSE standards, policies, regulations and environmental requirements.
About You
- 7–10+ years' experience in project construction supervision within the contractor civil construction and earthmoving sectors.
- Demonstrated contractor and/or self-perform civil earthworks supervision experience, including leading earthworks teams operating Graders, Scrapers, Loaders, Moxys and Excavators.
- Proven experience delivering large civil infrastructure projects, with a broad civil construction background and the ability to supervise other disciplines where required, including concrete, pipework and structural works.
- Solid understanding of earthmoving plant and civil construction methodologies.
- Demonstrated experience leading contracting partners and high-performing teams in remote locations, with excellent leadership and people management skills.
- Passion for developing and maintaining a safe, high-performing team culture, with a strong commitment to HSE and a proven safety leadership record in the field.
- Computer literacy, including Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Willingness to work a 16:12 FIFO roster.
