A stable and flexible role where your work will make a real difference
Tobwabba Aboriginal Medical Service is looking for a Clinical Psychologist to join our supportive and welcoming team. This is a permanent two-day-per-week role with flexible working days, regular weekday hours and an established need for psychological services. You will have the opportunity to work with children, young people, adults and older people, providing variety while building meaningful and ongoing relationships with clients, families and community.
The role is mainly based in Forster, with regular outreach to Gloucester. You will work closely with our GPs, nurses, Aboriginal Health Practitioners, social and emotional wellbeing team, youth workers and community programs.
You will be supported by a wider multidisciplinary team and will not be expected to manage complex client needs in isolation. The position also provides an opportunity to help shape and strengthen the way psychological services are delivered across Tobwabba.
About the role
You will provide culturally safe psychological assessment, therapy and ongoing support to clients across all stages of life.
Your responsibilities will include
- Providing psychological assessments, treatment planning and evidence-based therapy
- Supporting children, young people, adults and older people

- Supporting clients experiencing trauma, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, behavioural concerns, family difficulties and other complex needs
- Building respectful and trusting relationships with clients, families and community
- Completing risk assessments, safety planning and referrals
- Providing regular outreach services in Gloucester
- Working closely with our clinical and community teams
- Participating in shared care planning, case discussions and multidisciplinary meetings
- Providing advocacy and links to other health and community services
- Supporting group programs and community activities where appropriate
- Maintaining clear and accurate clinical records
- Helping improve mental health and social and emotional wellbeing services within Tobwabba
About you
We are looking for someone who is approachable, respectful and able to build trust with people from different age groups and backgrounds.
You will have
- Current unrestricted registration with the Psychology Board of Australia
- Clinical psychology endorsement
- Eligibility to obtain a Medicare provider number
- Experience providing psychological services across a range of age groups
- Experience working with trauma, complex mental health needs and risk
- An understanding of Aboriginal social and emotional wellbeing, including the importance of family, culture, community and connection to Country
- A respectful and culturally safe approach when working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
- The ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Strong communication, assessment and clinical documentation skills
- A current Working with Children Check
- A current National Police Check, or willingness to obtain one
- A current driver licence
Experience working in an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service or with Aboriginal communities would be highly regarded, but is not essential. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply.
What we offer
- Permanent and reliable part time employment
- Two days per week with flexible and negotiable working days
- $65 to $70 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience
- Superannuation and not-for-profit salary packaging
- An existing need for services and a varied caseload
- Regular weekday hours with no weekend work
- A supportive multidisciplinary team
- The opportunity to work across both clinical and community services
- The opportunity to help shape and grow the psychology service
- Meaningful work supporting local Aboriginal people, families and community
- A workplace based on the beautiful NSW Mid North Coast
Please submit your resume and a short cover letter outlining your experience and why you are interested in joining Tobwabba Aboriginal Medical Service.
