About the role

As Assistant Director, Media & Communications, you will lead media engagement, public messaging and communications strategy across a nationally significant organisation. Working closely with senior leaders, member organisations, stakeholders and media outlets, you will help shape clear, compelling communications that support advocacy priorities and strengthen national impact.

What you’ll be doing

- Develop and deliver strategic media and communications plans
- Provide trusted communications advice to senior leadership
- Lead proactive media engagement and manage key media relationships
- Prepare media releases, speeches, articles, newsletters and digital content
- Manage website content, social media and flagship publications
- Support major events through media liaison and communications planning
- Monitor media coverage, campaign performance and reputational risks

What you’ll bring

- Strong experience in media, communications,



public affairs or stakeholder engagement
- Excellent writing, editing and content development skills
- Confidence managing media relationships, issues and reputational matters
- Ability to turn complex policy and advocacy topics into clear messaging
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills and sound judgement
- Experience in government, advocacy, not-for-profit, health or First Nations sectors will be highly regarded

Requirements

- Tertiary qualifications in Communications, Journalism, Media, Public Policy or a related discipline
- Working with Vulnerable People Clearance, or ability to obtain
- National Police Check, or ability to obtain
