We are looking for a Compliance Partner to help strengthen our legislative compliance maturity, support senior leaders to understand and manage their obligations, and provide practical insights that inform executive and governance decision-making.
About the Team The Compliance Unit sits within the Office of General Counsel. The team coordinates and oversees enterprise-wide compliance at UTS, working closely with Legal, Risk & Insurance colleagues to support effective governance, risk management and regulatory compliance across the University.
Operating in a complex and highly regulated environment, the team is focused on strengthening UTS's compliance maturity, improving oversight of legislative obligations, and supporting a proactive, risk-based compliance culture.
About the Role
This is a newly created senior role within the Compliance Unit, supporting the Head of Compliance to implement, embed and continuously improve UTS's legislative compliance framework. As Compliance Partner, you will work with senior executives, Deans, Directors, compliance obligation owners and other key stakeholders to strengthen accountability, improve compliance practices, and provide high-quality insights that support executive and governance decision-making.
In this varied role, you will:
- Lead projects that support the implementation and continuous improvement of the Legislative Compliance Framework.
- Oversee the integrity, completeness and ongoing currency of the Legislative Compliance Directory.
- Provide advice on the identification, interpretation and allocation of legislative obligations across the University.
- Monitor and interpret regulatory developments affecting UTS and provide advice on emerging risks and institutional responses.
- Partner with stakeholders to assess compliance risks, monitor controls and support effective management of legislative obligations.
- Support the development of compliance issue reporting, escalation and remediation practices.
- Prepare explicit, insightful reporting for the University Leadership Team, Council and relevant governance committees.
- Design and deliver targeted compliance education, training and awareness initiatives.
- Work closely with Risk and Internal Audit colleagues to identify assurance gaps and support a coordinated three lines of accountability model.
- Build strong relationships across faculties and business units to foster a positive and sustainable compliance culture.
About You
You are an experienced compliance professional who enjoys working at the intersection of governance, risk and organisational culture. You are comfortable navigating complexity, influencing senior stakeholders and translating legislative and regulatory requirements into practical outcomes.
You will bring:
- Significant experience in compliance, governance, risk or regulatory roles within the higher education sector.
- Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying legislation in a complex organisational environment.
- A strong understanding of how legislative and regulatory requirements operate within a university setting, and the ability to provide practical, risk-based advice to senior stakeholders.
- Experience supporting executive and governance reporting on compliance risks, controls and emerging issues.
- Knowledge of compliance management frameworks, risk-based compliance approaches and controls.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, including the ability to work effectively without direct authority.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with sound judgement and discretion.
- High levels of initiative, accountability and professionalism, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes.
Key Selection Criteria

1. Significant experience in compliance, governance, risk or regulatory roles in the higher education sector or a similarly complex regulated environment, supported by relevant qualifications or equivalent experience.
2. Demonstrated ability to interpret legislative and regulatory obligations, apply compliance management frameworks and risk-based controls,
and translate complex requirements into practical advice for senior stakeholders.
3. Proven ability to lead compliance projects, build effective relationships across first, second and third-line functions, and support continuous improvement through reporting, remediation, training and awareness activities.
Remuneration/Salary: Base Salary Range of $143,080 to $149,897 pa (HEW 9)
This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary (total package up to $175,375).
