Data & Systems Analyst, Automation Focus, Investments
Location: Sydney, NSW
Salary guide: $90,000–$110,000 plus super, with growth potential based on capability and progression A boutique Sydney-based family office is seeking a junior-to-intermediate Data & Systems Analyst to manage investment data reporting and process automation, and to support technology initiatives across the business.
This role is designed for someone earlier in their career who has solid analytical foundations, solid technical curiosity, and the ambition to grow into a broader systems, automation, and business technology capability under direct mentorship from the CTO.
Investment data knowledge is advantageous but not essential. The successful candidate will work alongside the investment team and build experience in this area over time, while the primary focus remains on technology-minded problem solving, process improvement, data discipline, and learning business systems quickly.
Why This Role Is Different
This is not a traditional investment data operations role.
It's a hands-on growth role for someone who wants exposure to business systems, workflow automation, reporting platforms, low-code tooling, light scripting, and practical AI-enabled process improvement inside a high-trust, private environment.
You'll work closely with the CTO and gain structured exposure to platform operations, automation design, data workflows, systems thinking, and technology-led business improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- End-to-end management of monthly client investment reporting, including data preparation and workflow execution
- Management of recurring data workflows: extraction, transformation, loading, validation, and reconciliation across internal reporting and operational systems
- Maintain high-quality data across business platforms; investigate exceptions, breaks, incomplete records, and reporting anomalies
- Help build, maintain, and improve internal processes using Microsoft 365, Power Automate, Power Apps, Salesforce, SharePoint, and adjacent platforms
- Contribute to documentation of workflows, business rules, integrations, and operating procedures
- Support internal users with system queries, recurring tasks, and process improvements
- Assist with onboarding, data migration, cleanup, and technology change initiatives
- Use or support light scripting and code-based solutions to automate repetitive tasks and strengthen workflow efficiency
- Explore practical uses of AI tools to improve document handling, data review, exception management, summarisation, and team productivity, under CTO guidance
What Success Looks Like in the First 12 Months
- Develops a high level of understanding of client investment data
- Becomes reliable in executing recurring workflows with good quality, consistency, and minimal supervision
- Builds working confidence across core business systems and stronger judgment around data quality and operational exceptions
- Contributes to measurable workflow improvements or small automations across reporting, filing, data preparation, validation, or exception handling
- Develops practical capability across Microsoft 365, Power Platform,
selected Salesforce/reporting workflows, and basic scripting
Candidate Profile
This role suits someone who is technology-driven, detail-oriented, commercially sensible, and motivated to grow into a broader systems and automation role.
A strong candidate may come from business systems support, operations analysis, data operations, reporting support, technology operations, CRM administration, low-code automation, or another analytically solid and technically curious background. Direct investment management experience is helpful but not essential.
Required Skills & Experience
- 1–4 years of relevant experience in data operations, reporting support, business systems, operations analysis, reconciliations, automation support, or similar
- Strong attention to detail, especially with numerical data, repeatable processes, and system accuracy
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills and confidence across Microsoft 365 tools
- Basic familiarity with code, scripting, or development concepts, with the ability to read, troubleshoot, or write light logic
- Good problem-solving ability and comfort learning current systems quickly
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- High discretion and professionalism handling confidential client information
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, Business, Finance, Commerce, or related discipline preferred
- Candidates without a degree may still be considered with demonstrated relevant practical experience
- Additional certifications in Microsoft 365, Power Platform, Salesforce, data analytics, programming, or AI-related tools viewed favourably
