Deckhand

We are seeking a highly motivated and versatile Deckhand to join our team, where you will be at the forefront of our Wildcatch operations onboard our purse seine vessel FV Simoan.

In January/February you will be required to fish for Southern Bluefin Tuna. Once our SBT quota is caught we then swap the Tuna net for the Sardine net. From March through till July we fish for 5000t of sardines.

With some Sardine fishing in November/December depending on the quota balance and stock status.

Whilst we are looking for experienced individual, those new to the Industry are also welcome to apply.

Key Responsibilities Include

· Purse seine fishing operations.

· Net mending capability.

· Splicing rope and wire cable.

· Maintenance of vessel.

· A commitment to safety at all times.

· Demonstrate valuable communication skills and reliability.

· Flexibility to work when required.

Time at sea is a crucial component to this job. Tuna fishing will require long stints at sea over the summer months. Sardine fishing will require shorter more frequent time at sea throughout autumn.





Outside of the fishing season the role will include maintenance of both tuna and sardine nets as well as the vessel FV Simoan.

The position requires a good level of physical fitness and the ability to work on the water in inclement and variable weather conditions.

About You: (preferred but not essential)

· Previous experience as a Deckhand.

· First Aid Certificate.

This position is a seasonal role. Remuneration will be suitably negotiated with the successful candidate with an attractive six figure salary.
