Saferoads is a leading Australian manufacturer of road safety products, including barriers, bollards, crash cushions and traffic management systems that protect road users across Australia and around the world. Our recent acquisition of Chameleon expands our portfolio to include a unique Australian-designed modular tray, trailer and canopy system, engineered around an innovative adaptable platform.
We are seeking a motivated mechanical or automotive engineer to expand our capability in a hands-on design and R&D; role based in Pakenham. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of products while building your skills across the full product development lifecycle.
This is a multifaceted engineering position where no two days are the same. You'll be involved in projects from concept and design through to testing, production and ongoing product improvement across both the Saferoads and Chameleon product ranges. You will cover a wide range of engineering tasks including CAD design, new product research and development, product testing, compliance, as well as production and sales support.
As part of the role you will also have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of testing activities, including crash testing road safety systems to real-world field testing of Chameleon products. Working within a small engineering team means you'll gain exposure to every stage of the product lifecycle and have the opportunity to make a genuine impact from day one.
Position Summary - Key Focus Areas
- CAD design and product development
- Research and development of new products and features
- Product validation, testing and compliance
- Supporting manufacturing and production processes
- Providing technical support to internal teams, including sales, marketing and operations
Skills and Experience Required
- Degree in Mechanical, Automotive or a closely related Engineering discipline (final-year students encouraged to apply)
- Highly skilled in 3D CAD software for modelling and technical drafting
- Knowledge of, or experience with, metal fabrication and manufacturing processes is highly regarded
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a small engineering team
- A practical, hands-on approach with an interest in product development and testing
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- A current Australian driver's licence (required for field testing and site visits)
