A Furniture Carpenter (also called a Cabinetmaker or Furniture Maker) builds, assembles, repairs, and installs wooden furniture such as cabinets, wardrobes, tables, chairs, shelves, and kitchen units.
Typical duties include:
Read drawings, blueprints, and work orders.
Measure, cut, shape, and assemble timber and wood products.
Operate woodworking machines and hand tools safely.
Install hardware such as hinges, handles, locks, and drawer runners.
Sand, polish, stain, paint, or finish furniture surfaces.
Repair damaged furniture and replace defective parts.
Inspect finished products to ensure quality standards.
Keep the workshop clean and follow workplace safety procedures.
Skills and Qualifications:
Experience with woodworking and furniture assembly.
Ability to read technical drawings.
Knowledge of power tools and woodworking machinery.
Attention to detail and accuracy.
Physical fitness for lifting and standing for long periods.
In Australia, many employers prefer a trade qualification such as a Certificate III in Cabinet Making or Carpentry, although experience is also highly valued.
Pay: $5,500.00 – $7,000.00 per month
