Finance Officer

The role: In this important role as a Finance Officer at mecwacare, you will play a key role in supporting the financial operations of our residential aged care services by delivering accurate, timely and compliant resident billing and accounts receivable services. Initially offered as a 4-month contract with the prospect to transition into a permanent position, you will manage resident accounts, process accommodation payments and government funding reconciliations, monitor outstanding fees, and investigate billing and payment discrepancies while ensuring compliance with aged care legislation and organisational policies. Working collaboratively within the Finance team, you will also contribute to month-end reporting, maintain the integrity of financial records and systems, and support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance financial processes and service delivery.
About you:
You are a detail-oriented and customer-focused finance professional with strong analytical skills and a commitment to accuracy. You bring experience in accounts receivable or aged care finance, along with a sound understanding of accounting principles, reconciliations and financial administration. You are organised, able to manage competing priorities, and communicate confidently with residents, families, government agencies and internal stakeholders.
With a proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement, you are committed to delivering exceptional service while maintaining confidentiality, compliance and the highest standards of financial integrity.
What you bring:
- Sound administrative and organisational skills.
- High degree of accuracy with attention to detail.
- Working knowledge of Australian accounting standards, statutory requirements,
regulations and practices which apply to accounting in the aged care sector.
- Well-developed verbal and written communication skills and strong customer service skills.
- Ability to work within tight deadlines and prioritise multiple completing tasks effectively.
- Customer service focused with excellent telephone communication skills.
- Minimum one year’s experience in the Residential Aged Care Services sector.
- Tertiary qualification in accounting and membership of a recognised professional accounting body or near completion
