Position Classification: Advanced Trainee
Remuneration: $117,745 - $147,664 per annum
This position offers accredited Emergency experience, up to 24 months, for trainees of relevant colleges (ACEM, CICM, RACP, RANZCOG, RACGP). This post would particularly suit ALL ACEM trainees, PT (TS1) and AT (TS2 to TS4), looking for experiences in a busy regional referral & trauma centre. It’s also catered for applicants wishing to develop a baseline practical skill set in Emergency Medicine as our ED is ACEM-accredited for EM advanced qualifications (certificates and diplomas).
The contract for this position can be one or two years and our institution will be working to provide Critical Care terms and non-ED terms as individually requires. Available terms within OHS include General Medicine, Anaesthetic, Paediatrics, ICU and psychiatry. Secondments from ED will be discussed and managed by supervisors of training among all specialities. Rotations to tertiary EDs can also be negotiated. Responsibilities and opportunities for autonomous practice will be possible commensurate with level of expertise and experience.

Focusing on innovative models of care, Orange Health Service is the largest rural hospital in NSW and the regional teaching, referral and trauma centre for the Central West. The 520 bed campus has a 150 bed general hospital, with five operating suites and 60 specialised treatment areas.
Opened in 2011, services include FACEM-staffed emergency, inclusive of trauma; level‑5 intensive care, medical, general and specialist surgical; obstetrics; paediatrics; level‑4 maternity; dialysis; dental; cardiology, stroke, telestroke, interventional cardiology; radiation oncology; ambulatory care; rehabilitation; sub‑acute/non‑acute; diagnostic and a range of primary and community health services.
The hospital has one of the largest regional clinical trials units conducting a range of trials (incl tele‑trials and phase‑1 trials) across several specialties.

Eligibility & Requirements
• MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category
• A minimum of three (3) full years of postgraduate experience, including satisfactory completion of at least twelve (12) months of Provisional Training under the ACEM training program
• Applicants should be on a training pathway with the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine and are either eligible, or will be eligible by the start of the 2026 Clinical Year to be an Advanced Trainee (TS2‑4) with the College, and have the ability to effectively manage emergency department patients and function at a level consistent with published criteria released by the College.
• Membership with the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM).
• This position is subject to an appropriate supervision level which can be supported by the health agency. If the incumbent’s registration conditions include supervision requirements, the level of supervision must be able to be supported by the health agency for this role.

• To be employed by NSW Health you are required to provide evidence of vaccination to comply with the NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening & Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy, this includes any amendments made from time to time.

1. Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role and demonstrated ability to work with appropriate independence, commensurate with a level of a Specialist Trainee, within a supervised complex clinical environment.
2. Current registration with the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine with a minimum of 12 months experience working within the Australian public health care system within the previous 24 months.
3. Demonstrated orientation to rural/regional practice through life experiences, medical school and/or residency, outlining evidence of commitment to the provision of health care in a rural setting, preferably with experience of rural or regional medicine.
4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multi‑disciplinary team in the planning, delivery and coordination of patient care.
5. Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with patients, family members and other members of the health care team.
6. Demonstrated good organisational and time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment.
7. Previous experience in and willingness to deliver undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and training.
